What's the difference between Michael Moore and OBL?

One hates America and wants to destroy her, and the other is some terrorist asshole hiding somewhere in Pakistan.

UPDATE

Mike the Marine has a few thoughts on OBL's sphere of influence as well.

And the assaults

just keep on coming.

This election just needs to be over. As for the after election "action" many donks are promising if they lose - remember, we're the guys who believe in exercising our 2nd amendment rights.

Happy Halloween!

As promised, I have some Halloween photos for you.

Since we have no kids in the Analog Household and because the wife gets great joy out of it, she dresses the anaimaniacs up for Halloween. It gets a great deal of attention when she takes them out for walks, trust me.

So here we go, pics of the fitting seesions last night.

First up, we have Russell the Bumblebee.

He really hates this. But leftover taco meat seems to make him more agreeable.

Then we have Ladybug Jake

He doesn't care what we put him in. But I'm sure he wishes it was a bit more masculine.

And lastly, we have Ellie the Mummy

A little flour to 'grey up' her fur and she'll be dressed to kill in a slow shambling manner.

I couldn't find the right kind of shrimp to tease Pauly the Attack Turtle into his shark outfit, so he gets left out this year, and the rats just ate their scarecrow outfits, so they too get left out.

Shela the Cat will be going as Shela the Grumpy Cat again for the 11th consecutive year. Trust me, that is scary enough.

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween all. We'll see you tomorrow.

Ho-Hum

Another misrun government agency.

Thanks to GHWB and his signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, every county in every state had to either add point to point rides to their current mass transit system or create one out of thin air.

This story out of Fairfax, VA (registration required) shows an inept group of unelected county employees letting the program go to hell while they sit around and drink coffee all day and feel good about themselves because they're 'helping the disabled'.

Now don't get me wrong. I have no beef with a public entity contracting to a private firm for these services. In fact, I prefer it that way.

I also have no qualms whatsoever with that private firm making a good American profit off the deal. After all, it is called 'business'.

I worked for one of these agencies for almost three years, locally in the greater Seattle area. Thanks for the 85 or so paychecks, taxapayers. I did a good job for you and would do it again if I could make the kind of money I'm making now, but I can't, so I'm making sure your trash and recyclables gets picked up instead.

What I DO have a problem with is the county employees sitting around and drinking their coffee and feeling good about themselves, all the while not keeping an eye on how the private firm is doing with the job they were contracted to do.

The county is now saying that they may have been fleeced to the tune of $3,000,000 in just under 4 years.

That is gross incopetence.

And just like The Poor Schmuck, whom found this story, I can guarantee you that no one will lose their job or be demoted or docked pay or anything that you would think of that would be a suitable punishment for acting as an office-chair ass-groove installer masquerading as a public official.

The Joys of Socialized Medicine (Part 984)

Found @ Right Thinking

Patient must wait 83 weeks

An Edinburgh woman has been told she must wait 83 weeks for a routine hospital appointment, MSPs have heard.

Health minister Andy Kerr said he shared the frustration voiced by Liberal Democrat MSP Mike Pringle, who highlighted the patient's case.

But he said improvements were under way in a bid to tackle ear, nose and throat waiting times in the capital.

Let's see, Routine + Ear, Nose and Throat

How much you want to bet this lady is going to have to wait over a year and a half to get her tonsils removed?

A vote for John Kerry is a vote for more Socialized Medicine in America

October 30, 2004

Rumors of my death have been greatly

exaggerated.

It started out with some neck pain, and a numbness of the first 3 fingers of my left hand. I treated it conservatively for several weeks, but it didn't get any better. Fairly certain I had cervical radiculopathy, I scheduled a visit to the neurologist. I figured that years of football and hockey finally caught up with me, and I had nerve entrapment in my left cervical spine.

After waiting a few weeks to get in to see the neurologist (and this gets made better with socialized medicine how, John Kerry?), the big day finally arrives. Once in the examination room, I get to strip down to an attractive hospital robe, and then put through my paces in the form of a complete neuro exam. Much poking and prodding occurs, and the neurologist (let's call him Dr. K)is a very cordial fellow as he chats with me during the exam. He is telling me some story as he begins my retinal examination, when suddenly he get very quiet. After a couple of seconds, he says "hmmmmmmmmmm". You don't have to have any medical training at all to know that this particular series of events spells trouble. "You have optic neuritis in your left eye", he finally says. Then, I get to hear a couple of sentences that I wasn't all that fond of. The first contained the words optic neuritis, spinal tap, and multiple sclerosis, all in one cohesive little package. The second sentence, which I was even less fond of, "it could also be papilledema secondary to a space occupying mass". Being an oncologist - space occupying mass is immediatly translated into brain tumor. Thus begins my 2 week odyssey into the world of specialized medicine, wherein I meet all kinds of interesting people.

The first stop is for the MRI. I get several studies - brain, orbit, cervical spine, multiple different types of studies, with and without contrast, fat sat, etc, etc, etc. I was on the table for 2.5 hours - and I now understand why claustrophobic people have so many problems with this procedure. A very good friend of mine was that radiologist on duty - so I had the somewhat surreal experience of reading my own MRI after the procedure was complete. I was prepared to have MS, since that is the most common cause of optic neuritis in people my age in the US. However, thankfully, all of the MRI studies were completely normal (and yes, a brain was found to be present, thank you very much). This rules out brain tumor, and makes MS very unlikely. Good news to be sure, but no diagnosis.

A few days later, I visit a retinal specialist. He believes I have bilateral involvement (both eyes), and signs me up for retinal angiography. This test requires an IV injection of a fluorescent dye, and then they take many pictures of the back of your retina with very intense light of different colors - this was by far the most painful test I have had to undergo. The results - no degeneration of the visual part of my retina, significant swelling of my left optic disk, mild swelling of the right. The retinal specialist's primary differential at this point - cat scratch disease. I am pretty skeptical of this, since I don't have any of the other commonly seen signs of this infection. Still, a much better alternative than a brain tumor - so I trundle off to the lab to have titers for CSD and a ton of other tests drawn and submitted.

Next stop is to study how my brain deals with different kinds of impulses - the brainstem auditory evoked response, and the visual evoked response. Notice that for the BAER and the VER - multiple sclerosis is a primary differential that you are trying to rule out. Fortunately, both of these tests were normal - which meant that we were now out of the "you have optic neuritis" camp, and squarely into the "you have papilledema" side of the equation - which means I need to have my intracranial pressure measured.

But wait! What about my original complaint of left neck/hand pain and numbness? Well, that was checked out by doing nerve conduction studies and electromyography. The conclusion? My neck and hand signs were caused by an irritation of the ulnar nerve at the level of the elbow - probably a result of all of the computer work I do. A simple test, a simple diagnosis, and a simple fix. Good thing my neurologist did a complete exam on me rather than just stopping at my original complaint - or I would still be walking around with a much more serious problem that I knew nothing about.

So, yesterday, I had the final stop on my little diagnostic adventure. Back to the radiologist for a lumbar puncture and CSF pressure measurement. As it turns out, my pressure is significantly elevated (normal is less than 20, mine is 31). Much CSF was submitted for analysis of all kinds of things (including another type of MS screening called oligobanding. Again with the multiple sclerosis!).

So, finally, after much ruling out of many bad things, it looks like I have something called pseudotumor cerebri. While it can result in vision loss if uncontrolled, most patients respond to medical management. I just started the medical phase of therapy, and hope that will be enough to control the symptoms and stop the progression. If not, there's something called optic nerve sheath fenestration. I really hope to prevent a surgeon coming at my optic nerves with a scalpel, so you can bet that I will be most diligent in taking my medication - even though it makes carbonated beverages taste horrible, along with a few other potential side effects.

Oh, yeah - speaking of death - le petite mort.

Urban Legends Day 6

Yesterday's legend was False.

And as Mike the Marine stated in the comments, there is a legend such as that one involving Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson. Click the link above to see that version of the story.

Tomorrow, I hope to have Halloween pics for you and then there'll be a surprise on Monday. Hope to see you then.

Today's legend,

A couple with children were trying out a new babysitter. About an hour after they left for a night on the town, they realized they had forgotten to give her their cell phone number, so one of them called her.

After she wrote down the number, the babysitter asked if she could watch satellite TV in their bedroom. She had just put the children to bed and wanted to watch a particular show. (The parents didn't want their children watching too much garbage, so the living room TV did not have satellite channels.)

Well of course she could watch TV in their room, they replied. The babysitter had one other request: could she put a sheet or blanket over the clown statue that was in the bedroom? It kind of made her nervous.

"We don't have a clown statue" replied the parents.

This legend is False.

But creepy as hell.

The Latest Bin Laden Video Tape Is A Fraud

And, of course, the 'Bush must have gone non-union to find such a non bin Laden lookalike' calls are abounding at the IMCs.

Something else I found,

RNS Quote of the Day

Gratuitously stolen from Alarming News

I will ask the question I always ask, and tire of asking: Why, oh why, are black Americans never offended by such suits, such claims? Oh, how I long to hear, "How dare you. How dare you say that basic voting requirements somehow disadvantage blacks more than other Americans. What do you think we are, stupid? You think we can't show I.D.? You think we can't punch a ballot? How dare you!"

Jay Nordlinger in the National Review speaking about the Democrat lawsuit in Florida that accuses Republicans of 'disenfranchisement' because they are treating blacks the same as everyone else.

Born to Fail

European leaders sign first EU Constitution

This can't be a good idea.

PREAMBLE: Europe is based on "equality of persons, freedom, respect for reason" and draws "inspiration from the cultural, religious and humanist inheritance of Europe." It proclaims, "The people of Europe are determined to transcend their ancient divisions, and, united ever more closely, to forge a common destiny."

As long as that 'common good' is what france and germany want. All others should "Remember their place".

RIGHTS: A 50-article charter enshrines rights including freedom of speech and religion, and the right to shelter, education, collective labor bargaining and fair working conditions.

Notice they have the right to collective bargaining and safe working conditions, but no freedom of the press.

And we already know their 'freedom of speech' is limited. While I wouldn't agree with it, try wearing a shirt with a swastika printed on it in Berlin or Paris. Hell, in Paris a couple years back, you may remember the government banning an issue of a British newspaper (The Sun, if I remember correctly) that put Chirac's head on the body of a worm.

Gotta love the EUnichs idea of freedom!

LEADERS: The constitution states that the European president will be chosen by EU leaders for a maximum five-year term to lead EU summits and represent the EU abroad. It also creates the post of European foreign minister.

This process has already turned into a something, oh, I can't think of the word to describe it....hmmm....oh yeah, Quagmire.

PARLIAMENT: Currently 732 seats, the European Parliament will grow to a maximum of 750 members in the EU of 25 nations when it expands. The assembly gets more powers -- especially in justice and interior affairs -- to influence or reject EU legislation.

With upteen parties from two dozen nations, this ought to be more entertaining to watch than Saturday Night Live's parody of British Parliment.

Will Farrel as an MP "Can we not all agree that Oasis is the greatest band of all time!?!"

Cracks me up every time.

The countdown starts now.

Urban Legends Day 5

This one is a bit disgusting so, instead of putting the 'True' or 'False' in the extended entry, I'm going to put the last paragraph and give you the answer tomorrow.

If you are squeamish, you might just want to pass.

And don't forget, tomorrow is the spooky one, Sunday and Monday there'll be surprise pics.

Here we go,

Some years ago, the father of a friend of mine brought a fairly enormous house in the middle of Bodmin Moor, a sort of Georgian/Regency house built on the site of an older farmhouse.

In the capacious cellars they found half a dozen very large barrels. 'Oh, good!' said mother. 'We can cut them in half and plant orange trees in them.'

So they set to work to cut the barrels in half, but they found that one of them was not empty, so they set it up and borrowed the necessary equipment from the local pub. The cellar filled with a rich, heady Jamaican odour.

'Rum, by God!' said the father. It was indeed, so they decided to take advantage of some fifty gallons of the stuff before cutting the barrel in half.

About a year later, after gallons of rum punch, flip and butter had been consumed, it was getting hard to get any more rum out of the barrel, even by tipping it up with wedges. So they cut it in half, and found in it the well-preserved body of a man.

Case Closed?

Oh really, Kos?

What with the pics and video footage coming from KSTP in Minneapolis/St. Paul showing the stickers on the explosives and the locks on the door at the Al-Caca, excuse me, Al-Quaqa, facility, Kos declares,

This is it folks. Conclusive proof. Case closed.

Time for Bush to explain how his war planning gifted terrorists with (at least) 760,000 pounds of high explosives to use against our troops and god knows who else.

Besides being a propagandist by listing out the weight of the possibly stolen explosives in pounds instead of tons, as everyone else is doing, Kos has not learned that you cannot believe everything you read.

Number one, the 'seal' that is included in the link, and shown prominently at Kos' place, is just A seal, it is not THE seal that the IAEA used at Al-Quaqa.

Next up, the fooage shows that the 101st quickly cut through the seals with a pair of cutters. It isn't like the Irais moving the explosives couldn't have brought a pair of their own or that they would have seen the seals and been repulsed by them like a vampire to light.

Also, there are still explosives at Al-Quaqa. Kos himself could have gone there last week and found them there. Hell, he could probably go there tomorrow and find them. Just because there are explosives in the pics and vid from KSTP doesn't mean that that was all of it. The place is huge and has many buildings, a number of which probably held explosives.

Coalition forces have found something like 250,000 or more tons of the stuff since the fall of Baghdad. It's not like there were only 380 tons at Al-Quaqa. The place held something like 4000 tons according to the IAEA.

Then, there these things called satellite photos that show trucks pulling up at the facility at least two days before the US led invasion.

You also have to factor in (and in the same link as the photos) the IAEA reports showing that 150 tons of explosive were already missing from Al-Quaqa in January before the invasion.

Add to all that the fact that there were hundreds if not thoudands of coalition vehicles driving in and around this site in the time span from which the explosives were said to have been taken.

This point is brought up by ex-Montana Governor, Marc Racicot, on the Today Show. Kos links to the trabscript in a later post and then calls Racicot delusional by inferring that he doesn't live in 'Reality'.

So basically, this little ol' "non-reality based winger" blogger just shot 7 holes in Kos' "Closed Case".

He must have had an IAEA seal on the door to the case.

Screw you, Kos.

UPDATE: I just thought of this...

Why were there IAEA seals on the doors? Remember, the A in IAEA stands for ATOMIC. What authority did the IAEA have to lock these explosives down? Did the IAEA lockdown firearms facilities or artillery facilities or motorized weaponry (ie. tanks) facilities?

And if the IAEA had the authority to deny Saddam the use of these items, why didn't the IAEA either confiscate or destroy them?

Maybe El Bardei showed his own incompetence by giving this info to the US media to try and sink Bush.

Pay up, McDermott

McDermott gets $600,000 tab in leak of illegal phone tape

Baghdad Jim will go on and on about how 'evil and intrusive' the Patriot Act is, but he still thinks he was in the right to leak opponent's private phone conversations to the press.

But I guess calling him a hypocrite one more time isn't going to bother him much.

And take a look at this pic.

He's got the same thing going on with his left eye that Kerry does.

Is McDermott getting Botox as well or is it from some kind of implant all the commie puke Dems got?

----------------------------------------------

In other McDermott news, he was on Mike Webb's Local Looney Leftie Liberal radio show last night. When asked about the CIA confirmed terrorist threat tape, McDermott said that it wasn't real.

"It is from the Bush Administration. It's got Karl Rove written all over it."

UPDATE: Kim du Toit has made his statement on the Islamofascist Threat Recording.

Please, go into the comments and read what 'Rescue Mike' has to say about it. I concur with his words. Every last one. Down to the punctuation.

The only thing I would like to add is that I find it incredibly stupid to threaten Bush supporters as the guy in the video does. Bush supporters are 'the ones with the guns', as they say.

What he did is tantamount to pissing on the foot of a US Marine.

Bound to hurt.

Another reason to hope for a Bush win

Like we actully needed one more.

Billionaire investor, donor to radical causes and political activist George Soros, speaking at the last-hurrah event of his whirlwind anti-Bush tour, told a luncheon audience at the National Press Club: Now that I am at the end of my tour, I am not reassured. The race is too close for comfort.

Asked what he will do if George W. Bush wins another term, Soros lamented: I shall go into some kind of monastery. If we endorse him [Bush], my next question will be whats wrong with us?

I've been asking what is wrong with your Hungarian criminal ass for months now, Soros.

Money for Nothing

If this was being done by a Republican, it would have made the front page of local rag. But since it a Dem, it only made the 'Local News' section.

Out-of-state donors feed Gregoire fund

For months, Democratic candidate for governor Christine Gregoire has been warning her supporters that out-of-state interests were going to bankroll Republican Dino Rossi's campaign.

But with the election now less than a week away, it's clear Gregoire is the one who is getting far more support from outside Washington.

During the past month, for instance, private lawyers who made a fortune on the 1998 national tobacco settlement that Gregoire helped engineer recently gave more than $1 million to the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), Gregoire's single biggest campaign supporter.

Rossi is closing in on her in the polls and she's running scared right now. She even has our current Governor, Gary 'Photo-Op' Locke stumping for her.

Hopefully, it'll all be for nothing and I'll have a Governor named Dino come January.

One of the reasons I'm listed as an Independant

Besides tha fact that I don't vote a party line.

Maryland Absentee Ballots Spur Fears of Fraud

Robert Lanza thought voters' ballots were supposed to be secret, which is why he was surprised to see a little "G" for Green Party next to his name on his Maryland absentee ballot return address.

"Anybody handling my absentee ballot can look at my envelope and tell what my political affiliation is," Lanza said.

Lanza and other election watchers say the party tags invite fraud because a ballot handler who disagrees with a voter's party choice could simply throw out his or her ballot. Maryland State Board of Elections officials maintain there is no cause for concern, however they have also said they might discontinue the practice in future elections.

What a bunch of idiots. Have they not been watching the television or reading the paper for the past year?

The Feel Good Story of the Week

Dog saves owners life

Faith the service dog phoned 911 when her owner fell out of her wheelchair and barked urgently into the receiver until a dispatcher sent help.

Then the 4-year-old Rottweiler unlocked the front door so the responding police officer could come in.

"I sensed there was a problem on the other end of the 911 call," said dispatcher Jenny Buchanan, who answered the call from Faith.

"The dog was too persistent in barking directly into the phone receiver," Buchanan said at Benton County's Southeast Communications Center. "I knew she was trying to tell me something."

Faith is trained to summon help by pushing a speed-dial button on the phone with her nose after taking the receiver off the hook, said her owner Leana Beasley, 45, who suffers grand mal seizures.

Knowing my dogs, the only number they'd have on speed dial is the pizza guy.

Urban Legends Day 4

Tomorrow will be the disgusting one.

Saturday will be the creepy one

Today, the odd one.

Teen Dies During Halloween Hanging Stunt

A teenager who pretended to hang from a gallows as part of a pre-Halloween hayride died while performing the stunt.

Police said Monday that hayride customers on Saturday found the body of Brian Jewell, 17, hanging from the gallows, his feet touching the ground.

The stunt had worked on other nights and there was no indication of foul play, prosecutor James Holzapfel said. The gallows was being checked for flaws, and an autopsy was performed Monday.

". . . He's supposed to have the noose around his neck, but it's not a noose that tightens," said Holzapfel. Jewell would step down about one foot to the ground, making it appear he had been hanged, Holzapfel said.

During the ride, about 40 people are driven past several Halloween fright exhibits. The stunt went off without problems earlier Saturday. But the tractor driver became concerned later, when Jewell failed to give a speech he normally made as the wagon passed.

This legend is True

Why Math is Important

You need to know where the decimal point goes.

The Iraqi interim government has told the United States and international weapons inspectors that 377 tons of conventional explosives are missing from the Al-Qaqaa installation, which was supposed to be under U.S. military control.

But International Atomic Energy Agency documents obtained by ABC News and first reported on "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" indicate the amount of missing explosives may be substantially less than the Iraqis reported.

The information on which the Iraqi Science Ministry based an Oct. 10 memo in which it reported that 377 tons of RDX explosives were missing presumably stolen due to a lack of security was based on "declaration" from July 15, 2002. At that time, the Iraqis said there were 141 tons of RDX explosives at the facility.

But the confidential IAEA documents obtained by ABC News show that on Jan. 14, 2003, the agency's inspectors recorded that just over 3 tons of RDX was stored at the facility a considerable discrepancy from what the Iraqis reported.

The IAEA documents could mean that 138 tons of explosives were removed from the facility long before the start of the United States launched "Operation Iraqi Freedom" in March 2003.

We know that there were explosives stored there, but we don't know when they left or how much of them were there.

So, when is sKerry going to STFU about this?

----------------------------------------------

And in other explosives related news, we go to Afghanistan where the French and the Germans are trreating the Canadians like children.

Canadian soldiers attached to the Afghan National Army (ANA) have stirred up a hornets nest in Kabul by being too efficient.

Theyve discovered a huge Soviet ammunition dump a few kilometres from Camp Julien with the potential of obliterating the camp, as well as most of Kabul.

In the dusty foothills, 10 minutes drive from Camp Julien (population 2,000), 82 buried bunkers, each 20-metres long, housed thousands of Soviet FROG missiles (one step down from Scud missiles), and every variety of rocket and mortar shells.

Some of the FROG missiles were still in their original cases. Some heaped in the open. Some stacked to the roof in the unlocked, open bunkers. Much of the ordnance had warheads removed to collect the explosive for homemade bombs or for blasting at a nearby quarry.

Littered with burned out Soviet military vehicles, the whole area is a junk pile strewn with every sort of live ammunition, fuses, unexploded shells, rockets, etc., all supposedly under the authority of Belgian troops (at the moment), who ignored it.

In the midst of examining the bunkers and taking photos, a Swedish UN guy, a French major and a German colonel arrived to make a fuss and order the Canadians to leave. The French major insisted his government had a deal with the Afghan government for the area, and ISAF had no business being there.

What, do the Fermans have a reciept for the stuff or something?

The Canucks should tell them to piss up a rope.

Florida Voting Antics

First up, from FreeWillBlog,

Thousands of absentee ballots have been stolen

U.S Postal Service investigators Wednesday were trying to find thousands of absentee ballots which should have been delivered to voters in one of Floridas most populous counties, officials said.

Broward deputy supervisor of elections Gisela Salas said 60,000 absentee ballots, accounting for just over 5 percent of the electorate in the county north of Miami, were sent out between Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 to voters who would not be in town on election day.

While some had begun to be delivered, her office had been inundated with calls from anxious voters who still had not received their ballots.

Not to mention the attempted vehicular homicide on Katherine Harris that the suspect calls 'an exercise of his free speech rights'.

If that is so, I invite him to come up here and I'll express my free speech rights. 230 grains at a time.

----------------------------------------------

Also in Florida, people too stupid to vote are complaining about getting parking tickets when they park illegally near their polling places.

DELRAY BEACH -- After waiting nearly three hours to vote on Tuesday at the supervisor of elections branch office in Delray Beach, Richard Smart found an unwanted surprise tucked under his car's windshield wiper: a $25 ticket.

Along with dozens of other early voters, Smart couldn't find a parking space. He wedged into a makeshift spot along the curb in the Congress Avenue complex's congested parking lot.

I think the Florida sun cooks their brains. Here is the guy's excuse...

There weren't any "no parking" signs,

He must be a Democrat. Hey pal, there aren't any signs that say you can't take a crap on the sidewalk. You gonna do that too?

Baaahhhhhh!

Dammit!

After death in Boston, Seattle suspends use of pepper-spray pellet gun

At least one big-city police department has suspended use of pepper-spray pellet guns blamed for the death of a 21-year-old college student who was shot by police trying to break up a rowdy crowd of Red Sox fans last week.

The Seattle Police Department said it has shelved the equipment until it can determine what happened in Boston. Department spokesman Scott Moss said that the guns are normally restricted to a few trained officers and have yet to be used.

Other police departments around the country said they have found such crowd-control weapons to be effective and would keep using them.

Great! Just f*cking wonderful!

We have the entire left wing, including the party's Vice-Presidential candidate's wife, saying that if they don't get the results they want, they'll riot.

And now I have my home town police department, in the city that spawned the ELF/ALF eco-terrorists and the radical Indymedia Center, putting one of their most effective tools for crowd control on the shelf.

More proof that you cannot count on the police to protect you.

Good thing I bought it cheap and stacked it deep. Next week could prove to be wild.

More Outsourcing by the Democrats

From the Kos IMC links section, I found The Washington State Political Report Blog. Yesterday, Brenda at the WSPRB talks about a political phone call she got from current Washington State Attourney General and candidate for Governor, Christine Gregoire.

This afternoon I received an automated telephone call from Chris Gregoire asking for my vote. My Caller-ID said that the call originated from the 630 Area Code, which is in the Western suburbs of Chicago.

I don't know why she was surprised. Maybe she missed this story from last month about Oregon Democrats outsourcing their political phone calls to Nebraska.

Washington's minimum wage is $7.15. Oregon's is $7.05.

Illinois' and Nebraska's are $5.15.

You do the math.

MoveOn has created an "Election Protection Card" and put it into a pdf. file for folks to print and distribute.

I suggest that Red voters in Blue states take this free tool and use it the same way that any whiny leftie would.

Especially if this happens to you.

One woman who voted early in Boca Raton, at the Southwest County Regional Library, complained that as she stood in line, two men behind her were "trashing our president," Fletcher said, declining to identify the woman. She tried to ignore them. Then the man touched her arm and said, "Who are you voting for?"

"I said, 'I don't think that's an appropriate question,'" the woman said she responded.

"Uh oh! We have a Bush supporter here," screamed the man behind her.

For the 2 1/2 hours she had to wait in line, she was heckled by the man. As they neared the voting room, someone in the rear of the line yelled, "I sure hope everyone here is voting for Kerry!" she reported.

That's when the man behind her held his hand over her head and screamed, "We have a Republican right here!" There were "boos and jeers" from the crowd.

While it is true that MoveOn would nary raise a finger to help someone on the right, it would be nice to hear what the looney leftie on the other end of the phone line has to say when a Republican calls in about being a harassed voter.

Ya Gotta Love It

After the story about the Islamofascists saying they want to fight the soldiers of the Black Watch, one of the readers of The Blogs of War shares a Watcher story.

Once many years ago in Belice (where the British Army had its Jungle warfare training camp) I was sitting on a balcony on the river in Belice City and across the river was a bar upstairs in this wooden building with all the windows open so we could see everything going on inside. A couple of off duty Brits were really drunk and got in a bit of a fight, the Beliceans ganged up on them and beat them pretty good and threw them out.

About a half hour later an Army truck pulled up and unloaded about 10-12 Black Watch soldiers, they very calmly and quickly went in and threw everyone out the 2nd story windows into the river (a sewage filled cesspool complete with giant catfish) and then proceeded to completely dismantle the entire building and throw it in the river also. This all happened in about 15-20 minutes, their only comment the whole time was as they were leaving they chanted Black Watch, Black Watch!!

Now that's teamwork!

Something about Baseball

As I've said before, I don't follow sports (other than the automotive sports, both 2 and 4 wheel categories). I can fumble my way through a conversation on the subject, but other than that, I know nada.

So you'll probably understand my liking for this post from Mean Mr. Mustard.

But I'll give the BoSox credit where it's due and use Mr. Mustard's words to do so.

Urban Legeds Day 3

Mans Death Cause For Concern

When the fog lifted outside of Sanger on Friday morning, November 1, 2001, 18 year old Stuart Bidasoe was found slumped over dead in the drivers seat of his Silver 1997 Saturn. Beside him was a bag of Halloween candy. It appears that in the dense fog, Thursday night, he had run off the road and hit a fence post causing the airbag to deploy.

Officer Benson of The California Highway Patrol could find no apparent reason for Bidasoe's death. A drug overdose was suspected but no drugs were found on Bidasoe's person or in the car. It was not until he was transported to the county morgue that the mystery was solved.

Stu Bidasoe had attended a Halloween Party and was on his way home. He had a lollypop in his mouth and in the dense fog ran off the road, hit the fence post inflating the airbag, pushing the lollypop into his throat. He suffocated before help could arrive.

Bidasoe's distraught parents are seeking legal advice.

Emotional Blackmail from the left

I know, I know, like we haven't heard about them doing this before.

A Colorado Springs woman recently received a call from someone claiming to be from Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign who expressed condolences about the death of her husband in Iraq. When the woman said she knew her husband was still alive, the caller said a vote for Kerry would help keep him that way.

They are a sick, sick bunch.

Ohh, you mean THOSE explosives

"Oh yeah we have paperwork on THOSE explosives."

The United Nations nuclear watchdog group first reported that Saddam Hussein had begun moving stockpiles of explosives from his Al-Qaqaa nuclear weapons facility a month before the U.S. invaded Iraq.

The February 2003 report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), first reported Tuesday by the Fox News Channel, severely undermines claims by the New York Times, CBS News and the Kerry campaign that the Al-Qaqaa explosives went missing only after the U.S. gained control of the facility.

Newsmax gives a timeline for their evidence. Go take a look.

Under cover of night

Late Monday night, the Kind County Council met to vote on a their proposed land grab. It passed of course.

Now, if you live in King County and own property in the rural areas, you are now only allowed to develop or clear 35% of your property.

Raging Dave does an excellent job of expressing my feelings on this topic.

The vote was split 7-6. Along party lines, of course.

I have a source that says a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the law was filed the next morning. But remember, the Washington State Supreme Court ruled that if you viciously beat someone, and they happen to die because of it, you cannot be tried for murder. Manslaughter only.

So I'm not holding breath that the right decision will be made.

Another Seattle local blogger, Mollbot, has a reminder for the lefties on the council:

I think the 7 Democrats on the Council approached this backwards. See, properly organized greedy Socialst totalitarian assholes the world over know that the proper order of events is this: first you take their guns, then you take their land, then you take their freedoms one by one, then you start taking lives. They've started in the middle here in the armpit of the Evergreen State, and damned if Socialists making mistakes isn't a tad amusing, even when I'm enraged.

Holy Ohio, Batman!

More election antics by the Democrats are popping up.

To start, we have Ohio Governor Bob Taft telling us that there are more registered voters than eligible voters in 4 Ohio counties.

Appearing on CNNs "American Morning" program Tuesday, Ohios Republican Governor Bob Taft painted a disturbing picture of widespread vote fraud in his state.

Taft told CNNs Bill Hemmer that in four Ohio counties, more people have registered to vote than live in those counties and are of voting age.

Next, from the Interested Participant points us to a report about the Republican Party demanding that the Cuyahoga County Elections Board find up to 17,000 registered voters whose existence can not be confirmed by the Board or the Party will challenge their legality to cast a ballot.

The Dems are calling this "making it difficult for minorities to vote".

I guess that fake voters are a minority. But that's really pushing the definition.

Also, the Participant found a report that shows the voter registration of the population of Oberlin isn't at 100%.

It's at 117%

Talk about the Dems 'getting out the vote'.

The Joys of Socialized Medicine (Part 823)

Maybe Britain wants to kill off their citizens?

A doctors' receptionist turned away a man having a severe heart attack - and told him to come back later.

The woman told salesman Mike Goldstone that the doctors were all too busy to see him even though he was doubled over with crippling chest pains.

He struggled to his car and drove to a client's house where an ambulance was called to take him to hospital.

Mike, 60, still in hospital recovering last night, said: "I thought I was going to die.

"She threw me out on the street and left me to fend for myself in the middle of a heart attack."

And again: I'd rather have a $100,000 medical bill and be alive than be dead for free.

The Free Speech Debate

You may remember a couple weeks back when the FBI grabbed a few servers that the Indymedia crowd were using to post pics of undercover Swiss police officers at a Swiss anti-war rally. The Swiss and Italians made the request that the servers be seized and the FBI followed through under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty.

The ACLU is crying foul and calling this a "Speech Threat".

And yet we have heard nothing from the ACLU on the plight of a couple of NYC cabbies who have been fined and had their licenses suspended by New York City for speaking fondly of GWB.

Which just goes to prove, once again, the more extreme your organization, the more the ACLU cares about you.

Because they are so full of hate

Mainstream Dem's just don't like Rummy,

A Florida Democratic club has taken out a newspaper advertisement urging the assassination of Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, and another partisan group is running a national television commercial with an actor impersonating President Bushs voice saying, I used 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq.

The ad a fund-raising appeal for Sen. John Kerrys presidential campaign was paid for by the St. Petersburg Democratic Club and appeared in a Gulfport, Fla., weekly. It criticizes the Bush Bunch and compared the Iraqi insurgents to American patriots during the Revolutionary War.

A plea for assasination brought to you by the 'open minded party'.

Election Comedy

I bring you a triple shot of funnies from my walk through the Blogosphere

Laurence gives us a handy dandy voter test,

Every person voting would be sent to a small room with two mechanisms to vote, whether they be electronic device, lever-machine, paper ballot, or punchcard. There would be a sign over the one to the right that says USE THIS MACHINE over it.

A volunteer would escort the voter to the room, tell the person to use the machine on the left, leave the room, and then shut the door.

If the voter uses the machine with the sign, they weren't paying attention to the volunteer. Or, they are too stupid to tell the difference between left and right. Their vote is ignored.

If the voter uses the machine they were told to use, then they aren't reading the sign. Their vote is ignored

If the voter opens the door and asks the volunteer which machine to use because they said to use the left one but the sign is over the right one, then they are aware enough to realize they were told to do one thing while the sign shows another. Instead of blindly following conflicting instructions, they are questioning what they have been told to do. Thus, they have a basic level of awareness. The most fundamental level of critical thinking skills is to question. The most important thing to do when there is a question is to have the courage to ask.

Becuase of this, they are escorted to a third machine where their vote is collected.

-----------------------------------------

Rivrdog makes various predictions as to the fallout of different Nov. 3rd scenarios.

(If) the election goes, narrowly, to Bush.

1. There WILL be lawsuits filed by Kerry & Co. to cloud the certification of the election results.

2. There MAY be riots of varying caliber, calling for responses of varying caliber, heh!

Heh indeed!

And Kilabe's Hive makes his election projection through the careful use of Hooter's Beer & Wings. I tried to cut and paste it, but had no luck. Just go and read it for a good laugh.

Urban Legends Day 2

In honor of the men of The Black Watch, Mike the Marine and Raging Dave, today's legend. It isn't really an urban legend, more so a military legend.

Enjoy

Here Rests In Honored Glory An American Soldier Known But To God.

So reads the inscription etched into the white granite tomb that marks the resting place of America's official unknown soldiers. The Tomb of the Unknowns remains one of the United States' most revered sites, a permanent reminder of this country's commitment to honor those who died fighting for its freedom. Last week, that commitment was upheld in a way some people might not have even noticed or even thought about.

When practically every government employee in Washington was beating a hasty retreat to avoid the aftereffects of Hurricane Isabel, a small group of men decided their commitment to duty, honor and country was more important than personal safety or comfort.

Tomb Guard Sentinels, the elite soldiers of the 3rd U.S. Infantry regiment chosen to act as guards at the Tomb, opted to sustain their constant vigil at the Tomb of the Unknowns rather than flee the oncoming bad weather. To them it was a matter of honoring their personal and professional obligations to the men and women who served before them and who serve now - and obviously do not have the luxury of serving their country only when skies are blue and the sun shines down upon them.

Although the Tomb of the Unknowns is watched over by Tomb Guards 24 hours a day, 365 days a year regardless of weather conditions, to have soldiers so duty-bound as to ignore their own personal well-being is an example of real patriotism and a real reminder of the sacrifices made to secure the principles of liberty.

This legend is True

They must truly be suicidal

They actually want to go up against the Black Watch

LATIFIYAH, Iraq Anti-government forces in this city just south of Baghdad say they are preparing a grim welcome for Britain's Black Watch regiment when it moves north from Basra as early as this week.

"It'll be easy to beat the British because the British are weaker than the Americans," boasted Abdullah Al-Ashiq, the reputed head of resistance fighters in this city, the U.S. Marine defenders of which are being shifted for an anticipated offensive in Fallujah, an insurgent stronghold.

The British "are used to fighting against pathetic forces like the Mahdi's Army of Muqtada al-Sadr," he scoffed. "That means they haven't got good experience in real fighting. Just wait. The British will discover the difference between us and them the hard way."

Preparations to fight the British are at fever pitch, with the positioning of booby traps, roadside bombs and mortars.

Ummm, this Abdullah guy calls himself brave and then brags about setting up inanimate objects to protect him. What a pussy.

C'mon Abby, step out and show us your nuts. Be a man.

Just remember what happened the last time you and your pals went up against Scotsmen. You might get them cut off.

And to the Watchers, remeber Holy Aberfeldy, gents.

Maher: I don't know about five things but I think what Canadians should know about the American election is that you're lucky you don't live here. You don't have to participate in this sham democracy we have, you know? I mean I could tell you about, I could tell you five ways we don't really have a democracy in this country.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Satellites and telephone wires bring the battle for the White House to an Internet cafe 7,200 miles away in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, where Girma Hagos goes for his daily dose of U.S. election news.

Through the Internet and satellite television, the world can watch as never before and via a myriad of Web sites virtually back their preferred candidate.

In Ethiopia, 90 percent of people are too poor to have access to television or the Internet, but there is enough middle-class interest in American politics for state-owned television to offer daily coverage of the race in four languages.

And many people elsewhere around the globe watched the presidential debates live on television or via the Web the main forum for non-Americans with no vote on Nov. 2.

They can register a preference on Web sites such as Virtual Election, offering a "U.S. Election for the Rest of The World."

Like we actually care what the rest of the world thinks.

Not his day

Say you're a criminal and you're going to rob a restaurant. Besides an officer of the law or an armed citizen, who would be the last person you would want to be eating at the restaurant?

I'm going to offer up Extreme Fighter Ben "The Razor" Radach as my example.

Russell R. Rogers picked the wrong restaurant to rob Sunday afternoon, Vancouver police said.

Professional "extreme fighter" Benji Radach of Longview and his training partner tackled Rogers, 64, after he tried to hold up Elmer's Restaurant with a gun, police officers and restaurant workers said.

"You see it movies and you go over it in your mind, but you never deal with it in real life," Radach said.

Radach, also known as "The Razor," felt he had a good chance of overpowering Rogers. The 25-year-old Longview resident is trained in Pankration, a combination of kickboxing, judo, wrestling and other martial arts --- in which the goal is to render the opponent helpless or senseless.

Yeah, not exactly someone I would want to run into in a dark alley. Or a well-lit one.

Urban Legends

From today through Saturday I'll be posting an urban legend per day. It was actually the Analog Wife's idea, owing to her love of Halloween. Then, on Sunday, I'll have a Halloween surprise and then another surprise next Monday.

I cannot guarantee that all of the legends will be actually scary, except for the the one on Saturday, that one is kind of spooky. The true or fake status of the legend will be entered in the extended section for those of you who wish to know.

Hope you enjoy it.

A friend from Berkeley just started working for the University. His supervisor had the following tale to tell:

The supervisor and his brother were going off to the 3rd game of the World Series on Oct. 17. The brother was taking his new car, a pure white Mercedes with gold trim. He'd bought it three days before.

They get to the game, park, and go to the stands. The earthquake hits. Everyone cheers. Everyone goes out to their cars. However, our two heroes can't find their car it's been stolen. Somehow they get home, tell the insurance company, and go on with their lives.

A couple weeks ago, the insurance company phoned back saying that they'd found the car. In fact, they'd found the thief as well he was in the car when they found it. . . in the Cypress Structure, crushed to six inches high . . .

The brother was horrified, but Andy's supervisor was really happy. "Yes, there is justice in this world!"

This story is false.

Like we didn't already know that

So the 'big campaign stomping scoop' that was supposed to come out today is that Kerry lied about meeting with the security council?

BFHD!

The jackass lied about being at Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (which we discussed over the weekend), he lied about his military record on his campaign website, Hell, he even lied about being in Cambodia on Christmas in 1968 on the floor of the Senate.

His campaign sits at the bottom of the list of open disclosure of campaign donations, he won't explain any of his 'plans' to anyone, he won't even disclose all of his and Teraaaaya's tax records.

Like anyone with a two brain cells to rub together even believed him on the 'UN Security Council' lie. I'm surprised he even spoke to four out of the fifteen.

But I'm not surprised that france is on the list of countries he did speak to.

What is funny though, is to watch Kos run damage control for him. As of right now, he is telling his mindless readers that Kerry only forgot to speak to Colombia, Mexico, and Bulgaria and then proceeds to mock those countries as being insignificant. What a sack of shit.

Greetings from Baghdad. I'm pleased to report that plans for this year's Grand Halloween Cotillion are really moving along. Does she know something we don't?

Chris Regan over at the JunkYardBlog was watching C-Span and caught this little exchange between Elizabeth Edwards and a supporter.

Supporter: Kerry's going to take PA.

Liz Edwards: I know that.

Supporter: I'm just worried there's going to be riots afterwards.

Liz Edwards: Uh.....well...not if we win.

Remember the AFL/CIO gatherings that turned into marching bands of union thugs strong arming their way into BC04 headquarters around the country. It probably wouldn't be that difficult for the shop stewards to whip them into another frezny like that again.

So, let me see if I've interpreted this correctly

It's not OK to get rid of Saddam Hussein, who tortured, raped, and murdered hundreds of thousands (not him personally, but you get my drift), but it is OK to call for the assassination of the President of the United States because you disagree with his politics?

Throughout the debate, John Kerry, for his part, looks and sounds a bit like a haunted tree. But at least he's not a lying, sniggering, drink-driving, selfish, reckless, ignorant, dangerous, backward, drooling, twitching, blinking, mouse-faced little cheat. And besides, in a fight between a tree and a bush, I know who I'd favour.

On November 2, the entire civilised world will be praying, praying Bush loses. And Sod's law dictates he'll probably win, thereby disproving the existence of God once and for all. The world will endure four more years of idiocy, arrogance and unwarranted bloodshed, with no benevolent deity to watch over and save us. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr - where are you now that we need you?

This makes me incredibly angry - but in a good way. Rational people who see this kind of behavior by the "principled left" are going to be turned off. First the Clark county letter writing campaign, and now wishful thinking for the assassination of GWB. Keep up the good work, Guardian - every voter you drive to Bush's side of the equation is just icing on the proverbial cake.

She's Right, You Know

Mamamontezz thinks outside the box.

You've all heard about Ann Coulter's brush with cowardly pie-throwers in Arizona. It made the news, and lots of blogs have covered it as well.

Seems these hooligans got off pretty easy. Sure they got charged with a felony for damaging a backdrop at the venue. But all of the charges directly related to their assault are misdemeanors. Misdemeanors? Seriously?

Let me break my thoughts down on this. Two men assaulted a woman. They assaulted a tiny woman on stage during a presentation of her political beliefs. The woman was assaulted because she holds political beliefs contrary to theirs. They hate her political beliefs and acted out that hatred by assaulting her.

If they had been some Aryan Nation types throwing things at a hippy-chick, it would have been a hate crime. So where is this different?

Yes, exactly.

In my opinion: Yes

Some Poor Schmuck asks a question:

Will A Kerry Loss Result In Riots?

He then points to an article about the Portland, OR constabulary preparing for violence on election night by sore losers on the left.

From the actions by the Dems so far, even if we just count the acts committed on BC04 headquarters around the country; the AFL/CIO riots, the multiple burglaries, arsons, even a drive by shooting, I would have to say that, yes, if Bush wins, the lefties will go apeshit and start breaking things.

Luckily, I am armed and waiting.

I have been waiting for their "Revolution" since I reached the age of majority.

And even more evidence that the left is willing to do anything to prevent a Bush/Cheney win, LGF links to an article titled 'Early voting brings cries of bullying' in Florida.

Exactly who are the Brownshirts again?

Kerry as Chamberlain

Dr. Horsefeathers speaks of Neville Chabmerlain's willingness to give away Czechoslovakia in his ignorant attempt at what Chamberlain called 'peace'.

The good doctor then points to the latest Krauthammer article that goes a little something like this.....

The centerpiece of John Kerry's foreign policy is to rebuild our alliances so the world will come to our aid, especially in Iraq. He repeats this endlessly because it is the only foreign policy idea he has to offer. The problem for Kerry is that he cannot explain just how he proposes to do this.

Think about it: What do the Europeans and the Arab states endlessly rail about in the Middle East? What (outside of Iraq) is the area of most friction with U.S. policy? What single issue most isolates America from the overwhelming majority of countries at the United Nations?

The answer is obvious: Israel.

In what currency, therefore, would we pay the rest of the world in exchange for their support in places such as Iraq? The answer is obvious: giving in to them on Israel

Yet another reason to deny Kerry his dream.

A Kalispell National Guard unit stepped in to make a fuel delivery in Iraq last week after a South Carolina Army Reserve unit refused the mission.

Guard Maj. Scott Smith confirmed that the 639th Quartermaster Company of the Montana National Guard delivered the fuel after some South Carolina reservists made headlines by refusing the mission as too dangerous.

Initial reports indicated another platoon of South Carolina's 343rd Quartermaster Company had filled in on the job.

But National Guard officials in Helena and the wife of a Kalispell commander said the Montana contingent had actually tackled the convoy duty.

"They [the 639th] did pick up the mission," Smith said from Helena. "I can't elaborate any further."

Cindy Regnier of Kalispell said her husband, Sgt. 1st Class Fulton Regnier, called her Monday after returning from the five-day mission. He told her none of the guardsmen in the convoy were injured.

Smith said the trucks driven by the Montana Guard unit were no more heavily armored than those used by the South Carolina reservists.

According to Cindy Regnier, the 343rd recently took over delivery duties from the 639th. She said her husband was actually happy to head the mission after weeks on base.

"He was probably jumping up and down saying, 'Choose me, choose me,'" she said with a laugh.

The SCNG guys, including the female CO, should all get time in Leavenworth. But instead of turning big rocks into little rocks, they should besentenced to 5 years of day long close quarter drills every single fucking day.

You get an order, you follow it.

Like being a member of The Red Ball Express of WWII was a risk free job. None of those guys mutinied. Patton would have had his nuts.

Or how about the line haul fuel truckers in Vietnam? 10mph to the Ho Chi Mihn Trail. I doubt that was very safe.

See BS is at it again

Just what did they think they were going to pull off?

Kristen Breitweiser has been an active, publicity-seeking Bush-bashing 9/11 widow who has spent time on the campaign trail for Kerry-Edwards and is featured in a new Kerry-Edwards TV ad in which she denounced Bush for opposing the 9/11 Commission and then declared that "during the Commission hearings we learned the truth, we are no safer today" and since "I want to look in my daughter's eyes and know that she is safe...I am voting for John Kerry." But on Thursday's Early Show, CBS News reporter Byron Pitts mentioned none of that as he portrayed her as some sort of random Bush voter who was so impressed by a Kerry speech line making fun of President Bush that she now plans to vote for Kerry.

On the October 21 Early Show, Pitts played a clip of Kerry, during an Ohio campaign appearance: "A President of the United States has to do more than one thing at the same time and I believe that this President has failed, failed to make our country as safe and secure as we ought to be." Over video of himself walking next to Breitweiser down a sidewalk, Pitts asserted: "That struck a chord with supporters here, especially one."

"Here?" Pitts was checking in from Girhard, Ohio and so viewers unfamiliar with Breitweiser may have assumed she was just a local Ohioan when, in fact, she resides in the New York City area.

Like we don't all know who this publicity whore is?

Attack, Attack, Attack

Well, I wasn't able to see it, but last night was to be the broadcasting of the hour-long look at the documentary "Stolen Honor" on the Sinclair Broadcasting Group's ring of stations.

I seriously hope it was worth the crap from the left.

Since they couldn't find anything wrong with the documentary itself, the left has decided just to smear those who brought it to you.

The controversy has thrust into the spotlight two men who both suffered dramatic, if distant, professional blemishes that have suddenly become relevant. Their past behavior confirms their critics' worst suspicions -- that Sinclair executives manipulated the company's broadcast properties for their own gain, contrary to standard corporate practice, and that "Stolen Honor" is a wildly misleading hit piece. The two men, both of whom are behind Sinclair's Friday night telecast, are a conservative broadcaster who has not shied away from exploiting his television properties to serve his personal needs, and a television journalist with a right-wing agenda who once famously aired explosive allegations in a Vietnam veteran-related expos that was later found to be completely false.

And that is just the intro to the Salon.com story. I won't give up anything to those twits, so if you want to read the rest, you'll have to. Or you can put on your digital hip boots and go swamping through the Kos IMC.

Screw ANWR

I'll take The Yukon Flats

Oil drilling at site near Alaska wildlife refuge gets preliminary OK

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has given preliminary approval to an Alaska land exchange that would allow a native-owned energy company to drill for oil on 110,000 acres within the nation's third-largest wildlife refuge along a remote section of the Yukon River.

The deal has the support of Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, who set a deadline for the agreement in a rider to an appropriations bill pending in Congress.

The land swap not only would allow oil drilling within the 9 million-acre Yukon Flats refuge which borders the more famous Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) it could necessitate the building of roads and a pipeline through wetlands that were nominated in 1987 by Fish and Wildlife for wilderness protection.

Wetlands, my ass. That mud is frozen 10 months out of the year.

You must pay your debt to society

Before you can vote

SEATTLE (AP) People who have completed prison terms for felony convictions but are still denied the right to vote because of court-related debt are victims of a "modern form of the poll tax," the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington says.

The ACLU filed suit Thursday in King County Superior Court on behalf of five such plaintiffs.

Under state law, those convicted of felonies cannot vote, even after completing their sentences, until they pay off debts to the legal system imposed at sentencing obligations that can include docket and filing fees, court costs, restitution and incarceration costs, plus 12 percent interest.

The complaint contends that violates voting rights guarantees in the state and U.S. constitutions.

"Washington must end this modern form of the poll tax," said Kathleen Taylor, ACLU of Washington executive director, referring to fees once charged by some southern states for the right to vote a means of discouraging poor black voters.

"The state should not hold hostage the right to vote in order to collect legal-system debts," Taylor said.

Let's look at the demos of who felons tend to vote for and them wonder why the ACLU hopes will win the election.

Or, we could just use our heads and not waste the time.

Oh sure, blame the witches

School District Bans Halloween

Puyallup, WA - "Let them have their 30 minutes of dressing goofy and having candy," said Silas Macon on the grounds of Puyallup's Maplewood Elementary School Wednesday afternoon.

He'd just learned the grade school tradition of a party and parade in costume during the last half-hour of class before Halloween night won't happen this year in the Puyallup School District for his two daughters.

The superintendent has cancelled all Halloween activities.

A letter sent home to parents Wednesday states there will be no observance of Halloween in the entire school district.

The letter stated that if a child shows up to school in costume, they will be sent home and marked as absent for the day.

The district says Halloween celebrations and children dressed in Halloween costumes might be offensive to real witches.

"Witches with pointy noses and things like that are not respective symbols of the Wiccan religion and so we want to be respectful of that," said Hansen.

The Wiccan, or Pagan, religion is growing in the U.S. and there are Wiccan groups in Puyallup.

Number eight on the district's guidelines related to holidays and celebrations reads as follows: "Use of derogatory stereotypes is prohibited, such as the traditional image of a witch, which is offensive to members of the Wiccan religion."

What next, are they going to try to ban sex because some people are ugly and can't get laid?

Alternate title:
Disarm the populace and make criminals smile; Part 982

Levels of violent crime recorded by police jumped 11% in the second quarter of this year, government figures showed today.
The figures included a 14% leap in offences of violence against the person - a total of 265,800 incidents from April to June compared with 265,800 in the same period last year.

In all there were 303,500 violent crimes recorded in England and Wales in the three months, up from 273,100.

It also emerged that more serious violent offences were increasing more quickly than minor ones.

Where's their attention span

90% of the left wing sights I visit on a daily basis are going apeshit nuts about this.

Addressing the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan Wednesday night, George Tenet, former director of central intelligence, called the war on Iraq "wrong,"

And that is all of the quote they'll show you. Which is making their message boards are go nuts.

Maybe they should show the rest,

although it was unclear whether he meant the war itself or mainly the intelligence it was based on.

Or maybe something from the rest of the article,

In a wide-ranging speech, and in a Q & A afterward, he said the United States is "winning the war on terror" due to the CIA's efforts to "capture or kill" three-quarters of al-Qaida's leaders, and that he expects to see Osama bin Laden captured.

As for the regime of Saddam Hussein: "I believed he had weapons of mass destruction. He didn't. At the end of the day I have to stand up accountable for that. In the meantime our nation needs to honor the commitment we made in Iraq."

Kind of takes the wind out of the sails of their argument, don't it?

Good News, Bad News

The Good News?

It's almost here, this weekend's Blastorama!

I'm thinking that we'll go back to Wade's in Bellevue (map) @ 1000 for a pre-Halloween release of ammo. If you're up for it, we can all meet at IHOP (map) @ 0900 for some breakfast (can't shoot very long on an empty stomach).

The Bad News?

I'm bringing the pumpkin stickers!

Sadly, because of the way the hunting season has fallen here in Washington State, there will not be a Pumpkin Splaughter this year.

If you do not know about last year's Grand Pumpkin Splaughter, go here, here and here for the words and the pics.

Good times.

I'm sure I could come up with the pumpkins, and I'm sure that I could find enough people who want to shoot them with me. But I'm not really sure that we all want to be out in the woods surrounded by hundreds of guys who are trying to be as quiet as possible so that they can bag a bambi.

Can you say "Incoming Fire"?

I was not able to talk a local range into letting me rent a portion of their range and bring in a hundred orange gourds and have me and my friends make them explode. Nor was I able to secure a freezer big enough to hold a hundred or so pumpkins until hunting season passes.

So I will be substituting orange stickers in the shapes of pumpkins that have no discernable race, creed or politcal bent.

I know, how bland. But if you put them out at 75ft, you can pretend that you're shooting them from 400yds away.

The Soundboard: Crossover Edition Pt. 2

Last week, I introduced Cody Chesnutt to you all with a tune that was funny, but not really a decent representation of his sound.

This week, I'm going to correct that.

But first, in 1973, Willie Hutch put out a soundtrack to the movie "The Mack" on Motown Records. The movie was your typical blacksploitation flick that followed a pimp named 'Goldie', but I like the accompanying album best out of all the genre.

Before "The Mack", Mr. Hutchinson wrote the lyrics to the Jackson 5 hit "I'll be there" and produced Smokey Robinson's first album without The Miracles.

So here you go, the title track to the soundtrack to "The Mack"

The Mack - Willie Hutch

Why am I telling you all this? Because the song from Cody Chesnutt that I want to post today is, in my mind, a two decade later follow-up, or Part 2, to Willie Hutch's song.

Just listen for it. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Serve this Royalty - Cody Chesnutt

-------------------------------------------

Next week, or maybe sooner, I'll toss one more of Mr. Chesnutt's songs at you (or until you buy his damn album, whichever comes first!) and then we'll move on to something different.

Anyone up for obscure acid-jazz?

Cheaters Never Prosper

Let's hope anyway.

COLUMBUS, OH - Thousands of cards mailed by county election boards to newly registered voters in Hamilton County and throughout the state are being returned because the people can't be found.

John Williams, director of the Hamilton County Board of Elections, said the situation indicates that there might not be as many new voters as some expect in a state deemed crucial in the presidential election.

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Robert Bennett on Tuesday said it's a result of statewide registration fraud conducted by independent groups that support Democratic candidates.

"By most accounts, their work can only be considered sloppy, haphazard and, in some cases, downright illegal," Bennett said, noting that the state party plans to take out full-page ads in Ohio newspapers encouraging citizens to stop voter fraud.

Democratic Party spokesman Dan Trevas said the fraud uncovered in Ohio equates to "minor errors" when viewed in the bigger picture.

Yes, Mr Trevas, let's look at the bigger picture....

State GOP records, confirmed by Williams, show that through Oct. 4, Hamilton County mailed 63,403 cards to new registrants, and 4,152 were returned - a rate of 6.6 percent.

"I can say ... as someone who's been in state politics for 40 years, that the normal rate of return is less than 1 percent"

7 times the normal rate of return is not a 'minor error', Mr. Trevas.

And with that, I'm going to have to agree with Ed Gillespe RNC Chairman....

"I'll bet you this. If Mary Poppins and Dick Tracy vote on Election Day, they'll vote for John Kerry."

Hit yourself in the head with a big rock and pretend you're a leftie.

You hate. You hate a lot. You hate a lot of Republicans.

You hate Pat Robertson. You hate Tucker Carlson.

You hate them so much that you insist that they are all liars. You believe that whenever they open their mouths, a lie comes out.

But you hate George W. Bush so much that you'll forget all about them being liars as long as it feeds your hate of W.

Take a look at this post from the Kos IMC.

They believe Pat Robertson because Karen Hughes says that he isn't telling the truth about what was said between Robertson and Bush.

And the reason you believe that Karen Huges is a liar is because she worked for Bush and because Tucker Carlson says so.

OK. I'm gonna go sit down for a bit. I got dizzy from running around in that circle.

EU agreement allows Syria to keep WMD

The European Union appears to have resolved a year-long dispute with Syria over its weapons of mass destruction program.

Officials said Brussels and Damascus have agreed on a clause that addresses Syria's WMD programs. They said the clause does not stipulate that Syria must dismantle its programs, rather that Damascus would not proliferate biological, chemical or nuclear weapons.

Now, if the Syrians are half as smart as the Norks, they'll say that this agreement also means that they can keep the WMD that Saddam passed off to them.

RIP

Alton Lee

Voting was a patriotic responsibility that Las Vegan Alton Lee Overton did not take lightly.

Fifty years ago, he voted for the first time when he turned 21. While serving in the Air Force in Vietnam, he voted by absentee ballot. As a Las Vegas resident of 17 years, he walked across the street from his home near Nellis Boulevard and Desert Inn Road each Election Day to vote at a school.

Diagnosed with terminal lung cancer this past summer, Overton, a Republican, was determined to vote for President George W. Bush if it was the last thing he did.

It pretty much was.

Overton awoke Sunday and asked his wife for his mail-in ballot, filled it out, signed it, sealed it and asked a family member to immediately take it to a nearby mail box and drop it in. Six hours later, he died, three months to the day after he was diagnosed with cancer. He was 71.

At least Mr. Lee was alive when he filled out his ballot.

That's the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

Teen Driving

Yesterday, the Interested Participant blogged about teaching his 16 year old how to drive.

In the interest of being helpful, and seeing as how I had a rocky start in my driving career, I would like to address this issue here and now for all the parents and parents-to-be on how to get your child behind the wheel in the proper manner.

First off, forget the high school driving class (unless your state requires it). That crap is Sesame Street and will be utterly useless for anything other than passing the written part of their driving test.

I've got two words for you: Parking lot.

You want to see a 15 year old excited to get up early on a Saturday or Sunday morning? Tell them that they have to be up at 0600 so you can be at the Park and Ride by 0700. A mall or major shopping center lot will do, but they generally put their light sponsons too close together.

Most lots of that size have stop signs and left and right hand turns for practice. They also have enough space for you to set up some cones to practice parking maneuvers.

Another reminder: They have to pay for the gas for this exercise. You want them to stay away from a gas guzzling muscle car? Remind them how much gas costs. They'll be happy to get a Corolla.

Also, extra chores might not be a bad idea to help motivate them to appreciate your time spent grabbing the 'O Shit Handle' on the passenger seat of YOUR OWN CAR. Teaching them how to drive is nowhere in the parental contract. "Food. Clothing. Shelter. Love. I see nothing about driving or a free car in there, now go mow the yard."

Next up, find a good defensive driving course and have them go through it. Hell, if you got the cash, go through it with them. You might learn something. That and it'll save them (and you) on car insurance costs.

You start this at 15, since it is generally legal for 15 yr olds to drive around parking lots, and then at 15 1/2, if that is when your state gives out learners permits, you go out and get them one.

Spend a couple months letting them drive around the lot until you feel comfortable that they might be able to handle a stop light. Then you let them drive home one day and see how they do. If they do well, you won't be able to pry the smile off their face with a freaking crowbar for a week.

By now, your kid should be starting to get comforatble on the road with you in the car. In another six months, they'll be comfortable without you in the car.

But, before you let them go out on their own, they have to write out a contract (or verbal promise with a handshake, whatever is your speed) to have enough money saved up by their 18th birthday to enroll in a race driving course.

You want to know who respects what speed can do? The folks who know what they themselves can do. Scare the piss out of the kid while giving them some skills in a safe environment.

The courses usually run anywhere between $300 to $1000 (depending on the cars used) or so for a weekend course, easy enough for a teenager with a part time job to save up for in two years, and they're all over the place. I cannot think of too many places in America that aren't within 100 miles of a racetrack and any decent racetrack has a driving instructor.

You don't have to go through a full-on Richard Petty NASCAR course. Anything connected with the SCCA will do just fine. Their cars, their gas, their classroom, their rules.

You should go too. You just might learn something. You taught them how to tuck the coners on their bed, now help them learn how to tuck into a corner.

My first two years on the road sucked. I even made an encore appearance in the same ditch. Time behind the wheel took care of some of that, but the professional help was priceless.

You got to get them behind the wheel early enough to impress them and then spend enough time with them afterwards to make sure they have more than just the fundamentals down.

Oh, and another little secret, make friends with a member of your state's Hiway Patrol. These guys have driver training facilities that make me drool.

And if you got the cash, GPS the car. The new ones out will tell you speed, braking, direction, etc.

That is all.

What a waste of carbon

The ever irritating Jimmeh Cahtah takes a drink out of the same bottle of stupid juice as Jim McDermott.

In an interview with Chris Matthews on MSNBC's 'Hardball', Carter proves, once again, that he has 'No Balls'.

MATTHEWS: Let me ask you the question aboutthis is going to cause some trouble with peoplebut as an historian now and studying the Revolutionary War as it was fought out in the South in those last years of the War, insurgency against a powerful British force, do you see any parallels between the fighting that we did on our side and the fighting that is going on in Iraq today?

CARTER: Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war weve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.

Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonials really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.

Huh? Wha? My head hurts from reading something that ignorant.

The colonial british of the 18th century needed to be more sensitive?

I guess the Founding Fathers just didn't appeal to their collective feminine sides.

And to think that the left still believes that Bush is the worst president ever just boggles my mind at how short their memories are.

The Wonders of Socialized Medicine (Part 652)

I still cannot believe that people still think that health care is a right and should be handed out by the government. I mean, they can go to any VA Hospital any day of the week to see what socialized medicine looks like.

Or they could just read the newspapers of other countries online.

Hospital wait times keep getting longer

VANCOUVER - The Fraser Institute says the wait times for elective surgeries in Canada are at their peak.

The Vancouver-based think-tank has released its latest study on hospital wait times and the report says the average time between being referred by a doctor to getting surgery is now 18 weeks.

People in B.C. wait a week longer than the average, while Saskatchewan residents have the longest wait at 33 weeks. Those living in Manitoba have the shortest wait times in the country just under 15 weeks.

"Yeah, you with the hernia. Just wait right there and take these pain pills. We're still two months out from your operation appointment."

Election Update

We have heard about Arafat's support for Kerry

And now another foreign leader comes out in support for the Ketchup King.

Malaysia's Mahathir tells American Muslims to vote for Kerry

Kerry's folks are trying to push themselves away from this guy. Even their two brain cells each now this guy is bad news.

Kerry's aides insisted the Democratic candidate "rejects any association" with Mahathir, whom they called "an avowed anti-Semite whose views are totally deplorable."

Mahathir retired last year mired in a controversy after telling a summit of Muslim leaders that "Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them."

Now there's someone I want stumpin' for Kerry.

But, by far, the funniest thing I've seen so far this week is that Iran wants to send monitors here for the activites taking place on Nov. 2nd.

Irans hardline Basij militia has written to UN secretary general Kofi Annan to ask if the Islamic republic can send observers to the US presidential election in November, a government newspaper said on Monday. "By this symbolic request, we want to ridicule the so-called democratic slogans of the American leaders," a Basij official, Said Toutunshian, told the Iran newspaper.

"We want to say to the whole world that the presence of observers from the Islamic republic of Iran, the most democratic regime in the world, is necessary to guarantee the smooth running of the American elections." The Basij is a volunteer army attached to Irans Revolutionary Guards, the Islamic republics ideological army.

Oh, my sides! The Pain! Make it stop! Please!

Anti-DUI Program Worker Arrested For Drunken Driving

The coordinator for the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI Task Force was arrested for drunken driving earlier this month in Spanaway, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Sheri Badger was seen driving 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on state Route 7 near Tule Lake Road at about 1 a.m. on Oct. 9, Trooper Johnny Alexander told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Troopers pulled her over, gave her a breath test and determined she had been driving drunk. She was released to a friend, who drove her home, Alexander said.

Badger was cooperative when pulled over. The results of the breath test were not released pending the filing of charges in the case, Alexander said.

The Tacoma/Pierce County DUI Task Force was created in 1983. It organizes anti-DUI education and enforcement programs.

In the Mail

More Busy-Busy at work as we lost one of our day crew and I'm picking up a nice chunk of the slack (yay! 60 hour work week!). But since I cannot leave you all with a whole lot of nothing, I'm going to go through the State of Washington Voter's Pamphlet I got in the mail yesterday.

Starting at the top

Since I'm pertty sure you all know who I'm voting for, I'm just going to slide through the Presidential candidates.

One thing I did notice was that Bush's statement sounds like he is actually talking to you, minus the gramatical errors. Very plain and to the point.

Kerry's statement, on the other hand, is mostly anti-Bush bullet points.

Of course after the major parties we have the fruitcakes.

*Mr. "I don't use zip codes 'cause I'm a freak" Badnarik and the Libertarians.
*Workers World cult leader, John Parker, and his $15 per hour minimum wage pipe dream (How's that $12 Big Mac?).
*Green Weenie Cobb and his rant for his instant runoff national voting circus proposal.
*Socialist Workers Party candidate, James Harris, and their 'immediate and unconditional withdrawl of troops from Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Korea, Haiti, Columbia and Gitmo' speil.
*More bullet points from Peroutka and the Constitution Party.
*The Socialist Equality Party's Bill Van Auken "Fighting against the profit system".

*And last, but not least, Nader. Yep we got Nader on the ballot here. Go Nader!

On the Senatorial fights, we have Patty bin Murray versus George Nethercutt. There is also a Libertarian and a Green candidate for this spot (Mills and Wilson, respectively), but neither of them will get even 1% of the vote, so lets keep it in reality.

Nethercutt broke his promise to follow his self installed term limits as a member of the House. But Patty thinks bin Laden builds daycare facilities. That and the only women who should wear tennis shoes should be practicing kick-boxing is very tight spandex for my entertainment.

Gotta go with Nethercutt.

In the Battle of the Nutjobs, we have Carol Cassidy trying to take away the House seat from Baghdad Jim McDermott.

When you look up 'The Religious Right' in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Carol Cassidy. She is the homophobe that folks like Atrios try to make Bush out to be. But McDermott took money from Saddam and kissed his ass for the privilege to do so.

Gotta Go with Cassidy.

All the In-State contests will be below

Here I'll cover the statewide offices. Later this week, I'll tackle the issues such as the statewide Initiatives and Referendums and some of the district contests.

But here we go.

For Washington State Governor the Dem candidate is former Washington State Attourney General, Christine Gregoire.

The Republican is small business owner and former state Senator, Dino Rossi.

The Libertarian is Ruth Bennan.

Lawyer vs small business owner vs looney.

We've got one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and MD's running for the hills due to high insurance rates.

I'm going for Rossi. Plus, it'll be cool to have a Governor named Dino.

I don't know crap about the four folks running for Lt. Governor, but the Repub asks if I want Washington to be "A Prosperous State or A Welfare State". Gotta check the box with his name in it.

I'm going to want to keep the current (R) Secretary of State, Sam Reed. He's battled with low funds from the current Dem Governor and has modernized a good deal of the voting equipment here and I have no doubt he would act according to the law and in the peoples best interest should a 'Florida 2000' happen here. The Dem canidate looks like my crazy Aunt, Donna, and the Libertarian choice talks about the Diebold conspiracy in her statement.

Going with Reed.

I hate to say this, but I'm going to have to do some more research on the State Treasurer position. The incumbant, Democrat Mike Murphy, has done a good job, so far as I can tell, and I remember a story about him standing up to the Governor on something or other. I'm going to have to look that up and contemplate that before I make my decision.

The State Auditor position in Washington is basically a eunich behind a fancy desk. The Washington State Legislature castrated that position in the 70's and has never seen fit to restore the powers of that particular office. It doesn't really matter who Washingtonians put there, the person is powerless to do much but write memos.

But if Dino wins, I'd bet good money that he fights to restore that office. Hmmm, more research.

For State Attourney General, Rob McKenna is the only choice. Current AG and Gubenatorial candidate, Gregoire cost state taxpayers millions of dollars by farting around and missing filing deadlines on important cases. McKenna has more time in front of the bench than the other three candidates (Dem, Lib and Green) combined. I think he knows how to file a brief.

Incumbent Commisioner of Public Lands and former smoke jumper, Doug Sutherland, is the only choice for the job. Why even consider anyone else?

For the Non-Partisan Superintendant of Public Instruction I was a bit perplexed. Until I read the statement of Judith Billings. She calls 'No Child Left Behind' an unfunded federal mandate and comes out strongly against performance testing of teachers and standardized testing of students.

Non-Partisan my ass. Going with Terry Bergeson.

And last on the list of statewide offices is Insurance Commisioner.

Again, I don't know enough about any of these folks other than the incubant has done an OK job, so far as I can tell. More research is needed.

Playing Tourist

Went out with the family over the weekend and played tourist in my own town for a couple days.

One of the most fun things we did was go on The Spirit of Washington train.

It is a collection of train cars built in the 30's and 50's, modernized for safety and pulled by a modernized 50's era diesel/electric engine.

During the week, the train does speicalized dinners and makes a stopover at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Coulumbia Winery.

I'm not a wine driker and the price is usually out of my range, but the in-laws wanted to try it out, so we got ourselves signed up for the Sunday Brunch ride. Also, since my step-dad is out hunting, I called my mom and invited her along. She, of course, was thrilled.

Let me just say now, all three selections for the brunch main course were ordered in my group and all were excellent. The desserts selections were even better.

If you get a chance to visit the Seattle area, put this on your list of things to do.

And for your viewing pleasure I got a pic of the Analog Wife, the Analog Mother-in-Law and the Analog Mom standing in front of the train in the rain. But not in Spain.

More good news from Iraq you've never heard of

Found again at the Blogs of War (and nowhere in the MSM).

Todays Freedoms Voices featured story focuses on the renovation of the Bayji Power Plant complex in Iraq:

The plant employs 2,000 local civilians, 1,200 of whom are permanent. The 1st Infantry Division spent more than $1 million on parts for the plant.

Aside from repairs to the 500-acre complex, security was a major issue, officials said. Its fence had gaping holes that served as a gateway for looters, who frequently stole equipment and supplies. To remedy that problem, the 1st Infantry Division spent $450,000 to build a 12-foot wall around the entire complex. That project created more than 700 jobs for local Iraqis, as six different contractors worked on the wall simultaneously.

sarcasm set to stun/ What, you mean that America is doing good things for Iraqis? Like giving them work and electricity?

Why, that's not Imperialism, dammit!/sarcasm off

Returning the favor

Over the weekend the blogosphere was introduced to a photo project called 'For Iraq'.

Large numbers of the brain dead left made signs and gave their hollow empathy for 'the people of Iraq' with homemade signs like this one,

Then the right wing of the 'sphere started to send a message back.
Found @ Ipse Dixit

Then on Sunday, The Mudville Gazette started the "Photoshop Peace" program with the reminder that the left can never get through their skulls,

And remember, never! never! never! put yourself on the internet holding a sign.

Here are 3 entries from me (please forgive my zero photoshop skills).

I call these first two "Ain't it the Truth? Pt 1 and 2"

And the third contains original art from the Free Will Blog Store

Go make your own. Have a good time with it. And remember hollow empathy is worth less than two shakes of a rat's ass.

Just as I said in my #3 Debate round-up, I'll take Bush's stance on guns any day over Kerry's.

It might not be perfect, in that he does not jump atop the table and begin distribuing machine guns, but damn, I'll take it.

IRAQI POLICE TAKE DOWN KIRKUK 'HOSTAGE HOUSE'

BAGHDAD, Iraq Iraqi Police Service officers from the Meghdad Police Department in Kirkuk in Northern Iraq seized seven suspected kidnappers, Tuesday, from a believed hostage house after intercepting two kidnap victims fleeing from four armed men in the city.

Officers moved to the home in the Wahid Huzayray area after questioning the victims and calling for backup. A single individual was detained in the initial search and interrogated, leading officers to a second suspect in the Arafa neighborhood of Kirkuk.

Officers watched over the home and nabbed five additional individuals later returning to the home.

In the operation police also seized five AK-47s with ammunition, one Egyptian grenade, various knives, Iraqi National Guard and U.S. Army desert combat uniforms, multiple currencies and bank checks, and two bottles of Ketamine a rapid acting disassociative anesthetic similar to phencyclidine (PCP) used to subdue victims.

Found @ The JunkYardBlog who has this to say,

That last item both confirms that the house was indeed a hostage holding and killing site, and confirms why the beheaded hostages seem so docile at the point of their murders. The terrorists are sedating them in order to control them.

Oz Anti-Semitism Report

Tom Paine reports @ Silent Running

Around fifteen minutes ago, I was standing on the footpath outside Minotaur, Melbourne's premier science fiction and fantasy bookstore on Elizabeth St, just north of the intersection with Collins.

Some guy just comes up to me out of nowhere, a bit scruffy, denim jacket, jeans, baseball cap, looked a bit like he may have been a student, around 22 years old; shouts "Fuck Israel!" in my ear and then walks quickly off in a northerly direction, saying "Free Palestine!", albeit at a more normal volume.

Being the lightning-reflexed witty racounteur that I am, I cleverly retorted by standing there with my mouth open wondering if what had just happened had just happened.

Guess that's what I get for being in the open while wearing a kippa. What a lovely way to get ready for shabbat. Oh well, at least I didn't get stabbed.

Yes Tom, to get stabbed, you'd have to be in france.

Triple Shot of Lefty Lunacy

Found at the Free Will Blog

I have had little time over the weekend to do much blogging, as you could probably tell. But I did get enought time to blog around a bit and found some interesting news that will be posted today.

Three stories I found at Free Will

First up, the ALF/ELF Eco Nazis have utterly lost their freakin' minds.

Scientists fear the graves of their relatives will be the next target of animal rights extremists following the desecration of the burial ground of 82-year-old Gladys Hammond.

As hundreds of mourners gathered yesterday for a service of rededication in the Staffordshire village churchyard where her body was stolen, representatives of leading drug firms involved in animal research admitted that the remains of their ancestors may be next in line.

Richard Ley, spokesman for the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), said: 'How many ancestors are they going to go back? Where does it end? There is an implied threat in all this for us, but it is impossible to defend every graveyard.'

Terrorizing the researchers at their homes wasn't enough, now they terrorize the corpses of their relatives. I've done some hanging out in cemetaries with previous girlfriends. Nowadays, it seems that I could get the chance to kick some ass instead of getting some.

------------------------------------------

Next Aaron @ Free Will wonders, since he's on the ballot twice, will he get to vote against Southern Illinios 5th Circuit Appelate Judge, Gordon Maag twice.

Maag is running for the Illinois Supreme Court 5th Judicial District which represents 1.3 million Southern Illinoisans. He is also running for retention for the 5th District appellate justice seat in which he sits at the appellate courthouse in Mount Vernon.

It's not just 'Vote Early and Often' in Illinois, it's also 'Run Often'.

--------------------------------------------

And finally, proof that Canadians have no freedom of speech.

Quebec's Human Rights Commission has ordered a used car salesman in Sorel to pay a gay man $1,000 for a derogatory comment made three years ago.

In 2001, Marcel Bardier told the man's travelling companion to keep an eye on him because he was a "fifi", a french word that equates to "fag".

The man, who cannot be identified because of a court order, filed a complaint with the Commission which said the comment caused him to feel dehumanized, humiliated and degraded.

Imagine the money Kerry could make if he had Edwards sue us for calling him a flip flopper!

Kerry Lied, People Died

The BBC gets the quote right.

Imagine that!

The commander of the UN peacekeepers in Haiti has linked a recent upsurge in violence there to comments made by the US presidential candidate, John Kerry.

Earlier this year Mr Kerry said that as president he would have sent American troops to protect Jean-Bertrand Aristide who was ousted from power in February.

The Brazilian UN general, Augusto Heleno, said Mr Kerry's comments had offered "hope" to Aristide supporters. Much of the recent unrest has centred on areas loyal to Mr Aristide.

More than 50 people have died over the past fortnight.

As I do my curls this morning, I will do so one finger short. I'm going to find out Kerry's current locale, stand in his general direction with that single finger pointed upwards, just like the category of this post suggests.

Blair is 'Using Our Troops to Boost Bush'

Tony Blair last night stood accused of conspiring to use British troops in Iraq as a "political gesture" to help George W Bush in the US presidential election.

The Prime Minister faced protests from all sides over plans to redeploy British forces to an area 25 miles south of Baghdad, freeing the US 24th Marine Expeditionary Force for an expected assault on the rebel stronghold of Fallujah.

Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary, is preparing to make a Commons statement tomorrow announcing that about 650 soldiers from the Black Watch will leave Basra and come under US command "for a few weeks".

Well perhaps they'd prefer that the Black Watch soldiers pull off the assault?

Oh wait, I remember another time that British forces were put under American command. If I remember right, it was something called Overlord and involved the names Gold, Sword and Juno.

I think that turned out pretty well, historically.

How many times do we have to say before they understand?

IT'S NOT THEIR MONEY, JACKASS!

Here, Atrios takes Bush's words during the #3 Debate and thinks he's being clever.

According to the CBO, health care expenditures in 2002 were equal to $5,450 per capita. So, assuming Bush's numbers are correct (and who am I to question him?), bring it on baby! $7,700 per family is a hell of a lot less than $5,450 per person. The health care revolution is here! Bush is its fearless leader!

What he doesn't get (because he is a liberal) is that the $5,450 is from each citizen. That citizen, choosing their doctor, their appointment times, their medical course of action. NOT THE GOVERNMENT!

Of course it is going to cost more, chucklehead.

He must not mind getting a minimum of an extra 15% tax on his paycheck to pay for the family's hypochondriac teenage daughter who has to see a government doctor before the school will excuse her absence.

Nor does he see the doctor choosing the cheapest course of action instead of the best because the government is running short of money (like they always do) and someone dying earlier than they should have.

He also doesn't see the line of people trying to sign up for a doctor when the medical professionals of the US close their offices and retire early because they're being told that they cannot make more than $50K per year if they sign up to be on the governments program.

But that is OK. What does Atrios care about infant and elderly mortalitity rates going up. They don't pay taxes to feed into the system to pay for their piss poor health care. They're just leeching off the backs of the middle class. Why, they're no better than those neo-con corporations!

Once again, my quote:

I'd rather be alive and have a $70,000 doctor bill than be dead for free.

Electronic Electioneering

Hey Puggs, you live anywhere near this place?

'Fahrenheit 9/11' To Be Shown At Polling Site

ELYRIA, Ohio -- A hot-button film is getting multiple viewings at a local polling place the week before the election, NewsChannel5 reported. Some say the West River branch library should not be playing politics.

Library user Jim Pengov is seeing red.

The library is a polling place on Nov. 2 and the controversial movie critical of President George W. Bush is set to air three times the weekend before the election.

"They just got a one-mill levy passed. Taxpayers, like it or not, are paying for Michael Moore to spread his rhetoric at an official polling site two days before an election -- in a key state," Pengov said.

Librarian Debby Kressa said she is surprised by the complaints.

Kressa said the movie came in and she just wanted to accommodate all the people on a waiting list to sign the movie out, so she thought it would be a good idea to show the film in the library's movie room.

The library posted an announcement that "Farenhype 9/11" will be aired as well. Officials are hoping that this will provide political balance for airing "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Pengov said because the library is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization he will go to court next week to try to stop the library from showing the movie at a polling site.

Notice how they play the librarian as 'just trying to be helpful'?

Also notice that they do not mention when 'Farenhype 9/11' will be presented at the library?

How much do you want to bet that it'll be AFTER Nov. 2nd?

There is also an online poll you can take if you click the link. So far it is in the right column, but go make your voice heard.

In Defense of Signage

Men save signs for Bush in stakeout
By Ashley Bach

According to two Mercer Island men, signs supporting President Bush are an endangered species. Within days of going up in the affluent neighborhood, the signs disappear.

So there the men were this week, camped in the dark woods with lawn chairs and a video camera, waiting for the thieves to strike.

It only took three hours. At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, a 25-year-old Mercer Island man walked to a grassy area along the 6700 block of Island Crest Way and began to pull up Bush signs installed by the two men, police said.

The amateur detectives burst out of the woods and confronted the man, who was apologetic. The men detained him until police arrived.

The man was arrested and released on suspicion of third-degree theft, a misdemeanor, said Mercer Island police Sgt. Lance Davenport.

The two Bush supporters said they set up the stakeout after 60 of their signs were stolen on the island last week. One of the men, who did not want to be identified for fear of reprisals by Kerry supporters, said the anti-Bush sentiment in the neighborhood is extreme and angry.

I love how the reporter tries to make the charges of Bush yard sign theft seem like a myth by using the word 'according' right off the bat. And then proceeds to tell the factual story of how Bush yard signs are being stolen.

Here and now, Ashley Bach is a jack ass.

Keep it up, Kerry

John Kerry's comment about Mary Cheney during the last debate is growing into a small firestorm and I hope it continues. Because everytime Kerry has to re-explain himself, it takes time away from Kerry getting his 'message' out.

While those on the left think it was no big deal and is "Actual Proof" that the Cheney's are 'ashamed' of Mary, their ignorance shows their inability to understand what was being objected too.

Here's the quote: "...I think if you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was. She's being who she was born as."

In those two sentences, Kerry shows his arrogance by assuming that he knows what Mary Cheney thinks.

That is the jist of the argument here. And the "I think" isn't a disclaimer. It is proof of him showing his arrogance to believe he knows what she thinks.

Kerry can go fuck himself. He probably thinks he knows what we are thinking.

And if he is incorrect, he's not wrong, we're just going to have to listen to him because we're the ones who are wrong.

It was his running mate's spouse is the one who turned this spark into a grease fire.

Elizabeth Edwards is blasting second lady Lynne Cheney for objecting to John Kerry calling her daughter "a lesbian" during Wednesday night's presidential debate.

In the ugliest outburst yet in the Kerry-lesbian contretemps, the woman who wants to replace Mrs. Cheney told ABC Radio network news Thursday morning, "I think that [Mrs. Cheney's complaint] indicates a certain degree of shame with respect to her daughter's sexual preferences."

And they say she's the 'smart' one. Keep it up Liz. Hope you like being a private citizen in North Carolina.

Alliance Builder?

Not Kerry.

All Italy is abuzzing today about a Kerry gaffe aired last night on HBO in Italy. As reported in today's Corriere della Sera in Italy, Defense Minister Antonio Martino criticized John Kerry for an incredible remark that the conditions of the Iraqi Army were so bad that even the Italian Army could kick their a**es.

Martino remarked that Kerry, "instead of saying what he thinks, should think about what he says."

Michael Lendeen said it best, "But that would be too much for the great statesman from Massachusetts, wouldn't it?"

It doesn't really matter, Mr. Lendeen. To Kerry, we're all just potential servants.

Contrasts

Michael Moore does a film, a hateful piece of lefty propaganda, and the republican response was to not see it, write angry letters to venues that aired it, and protest, all perfectly acceptible methods of showing displeasure.

So what happens when a media outlet wants to air something the dems don't like?

Eighteen senators, all Democrats, wrote to Powell this week and asked him to investigate Sinclair Broadcast Group's plan to run the program, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," two weeks before the Nov. 2 election.

Powell said there are no federal rules that would allow the agency to prevent the program. "I think that would be an absolute disservice to the First Amendment and I think it would be unconstitutional if we attempted to do so," he said.

So the GOP merely voices an opinion, the dems try and wipe their ass with the Constitution, and they want to be in power why exactly?

So much for the excerise of free speech under a Kerry administration. But then, that's always how they play the game.

Posted by Nukevet at 07:44 PM | Comments (2)

Does it matter?

John Kerry has an Honorable Discharge, now. But there is some evidence that it's not the one given to him originally.

If he did get a Dishonorable Discharge, how does that affect things? I think that even caught with either a live boy or dead hooker, Kerry's base will still turn out to vote for him. We already hate his guts, so it doesn't change anything for us, we just mark it down as another Kerry coverup or distortion. What about the undecideds?

Do they care? To a veteran I think it mostly does matter, to a nonvet, who can say? That if he did appeal to have it changed under the Carter administration is telling too. If there were grounds to reconsider, what where they? Why would they matter to a liberal, more than to a republican if they weren't entirely political?

It reeks pretty badly when you see how much Kerry's camp has challenged, accused Bush with not fulfilling his obligation, and then find out that Kerry got a dishonorable. Which brings to mind an old saying.

Who's shitting who here?

Posted by Nukevet at 07:22 PM | Comments (3)

Some splaining ta do...

If you were to believe the dems, you'd think that the GOP is planning a massive attempt to suppress the vote in battleground states. You would think that they must have evidence of it, else why make a claim that can be disproved?

You would think, you would also be wrong.

The Kerry/Edwards campaign and the Democratic National Committee are advising election operatives to declare voter intimidation -- even if none exists, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

A 66-page mobilization plan to be issued by the Kerry/Edwards campaign and the Democratic National Committee states: "If no signs of intimidation techniques have emerged yet, launch a 'pre-emptive strike.'"

While it's not proven yet, Drudge has been wrong before, it certainly smells like a typical dem dirty trick. The grand masters of smear and sleaze, always cry racism, always accuse the GOP of things routinely engaged in by democrats. The plain fact is, Kerry can accuse Bush of keeping an alien under wraps at his ranch in Texas, and the dem faithful wouldn't even blink, they'd just snap on the tinfoil and keep on bitching.

The democrats have no shame at all.

UPDATE--------

Drudge himself posted the dem response, and I tell you what, if you read what the democrats consider voter intimidation, I'm surprised they don't count having a living breathing republican within a hundred miles of a polling station as one of them.

1. Signs, posters, phone calls, and/or sound trucks giving "information" or warnings about voter requirements or eligibility and/or warning that voting when ineligible to do so is an offense, etc.

Telling someone that voter fraud is illegal is intimidation? That voting twice is a crime is harassment? Well yeah, if you want to encourage democrats to cheat as they always do, then this might discourage some of it. How heinous...

2. Concentration of numbers of Republican poll watchers or challengers in minority precincts

No, repeat no white faces near minority polling places, poor widdle democrwats might get scared of their lily whitness, or it will be tougher to cheat when we're being watched.

3. Republican poll watchers challenging every voter in minority precincts on some pretext

Every voter? or just any?

4. GOP poll watchers, local law enforcement officers, or persons with official looking badges or insignia stationed at polling places taking pictures, asking for names, or engaging in other types of intimidating conduct.

NO pictures, move away, mustn't have evidence of multiple voting, no accurate records will be tolerated. Also no uniforms, since we all know cops hate blacks, well that's what the party line is anyway. Also our poor frightened plantation voting minorities are so fragile, that the merest whiff of a uniform will scare them under the bed.

OK, so I'm being very sarcastic, but the wording of these outlines just beg for it. The essential truth is, they consider any observation of their pet polling places intimidation. ANY, watching. It naturally goes straight to the long held belief by many that the dems are utterly desparate to steal this one if they can. No note passing, no talking during exams, no cheating, and to prevent any chance that any student may be intimidated by the teachers present, they will be removed forthwith. Now no funny stuff. Just urn in your papers after you've had time to change,.. cough,... I mean check your answers.

Is that how it's done?

The Soundboard: Crossover Edition

Yay! Another two-fer this week!

Last week I hopefully introduced some of you to an excellent album by the Brooklyn Funk Essentials titled "In The Buzzbag" (if you missed it last week, those songs are no longer available, but I can send them to you).

I'd like to tell you about another of their albums.

Their Y2K release, "Make Them Like It", was pretty much entirely different from 'Buzzbag'. Very little eastern influence carried through, although you can hear it in spots. 'Make Them' had a lot more mambo, breakbeat and even calypso action going on along with their healthy helping Brooklyn funk.

All in all, if you considered 'Buzzbag' a 9 or a 10 and enjoy some out of the ordinary music, you'll most probably give 'Make Them' at least a 7.

Now, this weeks selection isn't exactly a prime example of the album like last weeks selections were. This is more of a comical selection.

That and I hope to one day be able to sing this tune and not be posing. That and it is the ultimate anti-yuppie screed.

I Got Cash (in f*ck you quantities) - Brooklyn Funk Essentials

But as of now, I am not a wealthy man. Which leads us to our next selection.

If you haven't heard of Cody Chesnutt, you're missing out. He has kind of a "Al Green meets Curtis Mayfield and they go over to Jay-Z's house for dinner" sound that is so damn good that it took me 3 days to get disc #1 of his two disc album "The Headphone Masterpiece" out of my cd player.

Click on his name above to go to his site. There you'll find a few of the tracks off the album and tour info. If you buy the album, you get a vid on disc two.

So, as an introduction, in the vein of me being broke and not having cash, I give you

B!%@*, I'm Broke - Cody Chesnutt

Now, a warning, ladies will probably not like this track and it is probably NSFW. But it is funny as hell. And that is what I'm going for this time around.

Tune in next week for a better representation of Mr. Chesnutt's tunage and a tie in to a blacksploitation flick soundtrack.

I got cash in fuck you quantities
Know what?
That makes you uncomfortable
Fuck you and the Range Rover you drove in on

Fuck your Saab convertable
And your twice weekly trips to the analyst
Stupid Motherfuck

Fuck the Hamptons, Maine
And the fly infested south of France
I'm paid, asshole
Got more cash than God can count
So why don't you just...die

Choke on your damn designer bagel from Balducci's
Low cholesterol, naturally

Fuck your big old Sunday New York Times
Fuck the Wall Street Journal
And Newsweek and the lot
Including Nation, Villiage Voice, Guardian and the rest
Stupid set of priviledge motherfuckers

Think it's fashionable to have an 'alternative view'

And fuck, if you can

Your pencil thin, evian drinking
Calorie counting, caffine limiting
sodium sparing, nutra-sweet sweetening
rear-view-mirror-preening
carrot-nibbling bunny

Go drown in a lake of diet coke, fucker

I got cash
What else matters
I got cash
Slave

Fuck your fencing
Screw your squash
Piss on your polo
And your Pavarotti

Fuck all that shit you call music and pretend to enjoy

I got cash
Mega cash
Unhappy with that?

Oh, go sit on your ski rack!

Money talks
You little pussy
And let your politically correct pals know
That I think you're a dick also

Neutered asshole

Your idea of multiculturalism
Japanese restaurant on Monday
Indian on Tuesday
And on Wednesday, Carribbean

Not too spicy please!

Well, I've got stash on stash
And it ain't nouveau cash

Money's been in my family for generations

My great, great, great grandfather made the bag
Selling European slaves in Africa

I got cash, motherfucker
And you can't tell
Whether or not I'm joking
Can you?

Dumb fuck

Frowny Faces

Part 1: The wife's parents are in town for the week, so no shooting over the weekend for this kid.

But that's OK because I'm here to announce that we'll be having the next Blogger Blastorama on Saturday the 23rd of October at a location to be determined by you, the public, by means of a democratic write-in election.

So, if you're in the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia/Everett area (or from outside there but would like to join us) please put your suggestion ballot (in the form a of a comment or email) and make your voice heard!

Part 2: The gallery owner I have been speaking about for the week has decided that targets are not art and refuses to take the challenge.

Aww shucks!

Oh well. We'll leave him alone now.

I think I can make better 'art' than the examples shown yesterday. Can't be putting out a substandard product anyway.

Debate Round-Up

My Opinion: Bush by a nose. And maybe by Geddy Lee's nose.

As in the other three debates, it was Hope Vs. Hate.

Bush wants Americans to be hopeful.

Kerry wants middle and lower class Americans to hate the upper class.

Bush wants Americans to hope for peace.

Kerry wants middle and lower class Americans to hate the upper class.

Bush knows that education brings hope.

Kerry wants middle and lower class Americans to hate the upper class.

That was all Kerry had last night.

sKerry voice on/ Everything would be OK if Bush hadn't given tax cuts to the rich!/sKerry voice off.

Here be the transcript.

To any and all dingleberrys who think Kerry won, when your guy has to use the first minute of his answer time to rebut the PREVIOUS question, multiple times, count yourself as lost.

Bush stayed on topic more often and he stayed on message more often.

Education vs lob loss stats

Hope vs Hate

PS - No, I didn't like Bush's answer on the gun question either. But I know that Kerry lied to me in his answer. At least Bush was honest.

Advantage: Bush

More than one per day

If you've ever spoken to a genuine econimist, you know that they can go on and on for a whole day on the subject.

Well, here we have enough economists of the same opinion to talk all day, every day for an entire year that believe that 'Kerrynomics' are horrible.

"Leading economists have a message for America: John Kerry favors economic policies that, if implemented, would lead to bigger and more intrusive government and a lower standard of living for the American people."

That was the conclusion released in a statement Wednesday by 368 economists, including six Nobel laureates: Gary Becker, James Buchanan, Milton Friedman, Robert Lucas, Robert Mundell, and the winner of this years Nobel Prize in Economics Edward C. Prescott. The economists warned that Sen. Kerrys policies "would, over time, inhibit capital formation, depress productivity growth, and make the United States less competitive internationally. The end result would be lower U.S. employment and real wage growth."

Kerry praised and then insulted Greenspan last night at the debate.

On no! Another Kerry flip-flop!

Found

I found this at the FreeWillBlog yesterday and thought you all might want to take a look at it.

A woman named Elena and some of her friends tell the tale of their archeological expedition around the city of Kiev in a photographical project titled 'The Serpent's Wall'.

This is one of the many photos included in the project. It is of a German Mauser and other equipment found near the wall from the Battle of Kiev in 1943.

She also speaks of all the leftover explosives that are in the area and has quite a few pics of unexploded potato masher grenades that they found.

It seems that the Russian gov't has an 'open dig' policy at sites like this. Provided that you turn over what you find. Sort of a free labor deal. One of these days, I would like to go over and have a vacation like this.

Previous to this project, Elena, her motorcycle and a geiger counter traveled from Kiev, through the Ukrane to Chernobyl to document the city as it stands.

This photoessay is titled "Ghost town"

It is definitely a must see.

I showed this to my co-worker, Eduard. I've spoken about Ed here before. He was born and raised in Belorussia and he and I are almost the same age. When we first discovered this, he spoke about how, if Reagan hadn't done the good deeds, he and I could have been looking down each other's gunbarrels.

Ed grew up in the Belarus capitol of Minsk and came to America in 1992. When he saw these photos, he nodded his head and talked about how the radiation went through Belorussia and the death it wreaked.

He had one other comment about the area. It is the same comment I've heard him say whenever the subjects of Communism/Socialism, the Soviet Union or Democrat whining are involved.

"I would rather live in a cardboard box in America than a mansion anywhere over there."

Ed also has an very unfavorable opinion of the Chechens. That is the area the Soviet Army sent him as a conscript. He says he doesn't know why they didn't make better Communists. All they do is sit on their asses and get high all day.

Even More Proof

That only stupid people would want Europe's approval for anything. And would vote for Kerry.

A mass grave being excavated in a north Iraqi village has yielded evidence that Iraqi forces executed women and children under Saddam Hussein.

And that's not even the worst part!

Mr Kehoe said that work to uncover graves around Iraq, where about 300,000 people are thought to have been killed during Saddam Hussein's regime, was slow as experienced European investigators were not taking part.

The Europeans, he said, were staying away as the evidence might be used eventually to put Saddam Hussein to death.

I'll leave you to curse to yourselves.

Backfire

What with this story getting a little bit of coverage in the media, it looks as if the Kerry Campaign kicked themselves in the nuts.

Complaints against the Sinclair broadcasting network by John Kerry's presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee may have backfired, with non-Sinclair TV stations now expressing an interest in airing the documentary "Stolen Honor." The film chronicles the top Democrat's role in the anti-Vietnam War movement.

"A few other TV stations around the country have contacted the producer of this documentary as well," Sinclair spokesman Mark Hyman told nationally syndicated radio host G. Gordon Liddy on Tuesday. "So there appears to be some growing interest in making this available to the nation's viewers."

Let the giggling commence.

I am an Artist

But I am not normally a gambling man. Sure, I'll put a wager in now and then, but only if I'm sure the odds are in my favor.

But not this time.

Mr. McGuffey wrote back yesterday, accepting my apology, in pertaining to this post. His reply was a bit snarky about the debate tonight, so I, being the goofy bastard that I am, wrote back a snarky reply with a wager for Mr. Cheeky.

If Bush wins the election, he has to display my art in his gallery for sale for 8 weeks.

If Kerry wins, I have to wear one of Aschenbrand's shirts, one day a week, in public and at my place of work, for 12 weeks.

I'm awaiting his reply.

Wait for the scream

From the tree-huggers.

University of Washington invents process to convert small trees to Methanol

Millions of scrawny, spindly trees choking western forests could soon be harnessed as a clean source of renewable energy, according to researchers at the University of Washington.

A process has been developed to quickly convert even the smallest trees and branches into Methanol, which is used as a power source for fuel cell technology, said Kristiina Vogt, professor at the University of Washington's college of Forest Resources. All of this can be used without adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

Although the idea sounds to good to be true, Vogt insists northwest forests could soon become an important national energy source. Apart from the energy, the process would help create new jobs and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire.

So let's see here,

Free? - check

Renewable? - check

Creates jobs? - check

Keeps forest lands healthy? - check

May reduce the chance of thousand acre forest fires and save lives and property? - check

Yep, the eco-weenies will absolutely hate this idea.

Tell me again

Who are the Brownshirts?

By now, I'm sure you've heard about the Sinclair Broadcasting Group's plans to run the documentary "Stolen Honor" during the last weeks of the election season.

Well, they sure pissed somebody off,

Kerry Campaign: Sinclair 'Better Hope We Don't Win'

"Listen - they better look out there at Sinclair Broadcasting," campaign spokesman Chad Clanton threatened, as the controversy around Sinclair's decision to broadcast a documentary about Kerry's anti-Vietnam War protests continued to heat up.

"I think they're going to regret doing this," the Kerry spokesman warned before adding - "They better hope we don't win."

From the top:

Vandalism and destruction of private property by Democrats.
Organized and coordinated violent breaking and entereing at Bush campaign headquarters in multiple states.
Threats of lawsuits towards anti-Kerry book publishers.
Threats of retribution against broadcasting companies who air anti-Kerry programs.

Sounds like Nazi scare tactics to me.

More Fear & Smear From The Left

The 'Pro-Bear Mauling of Children' lobby in Maryland is spreading manure.

A Rockville animal-rights activist has sent out a mass mailing to property owners in Garrett County, Md., stating they should not allow bear hunters on their properties because 40 percent of them are drug addicts, drunks or mentally unstable.

Earle D. Hightower, chairman of the Institute for Public Safety, a 27-member group mainly concerned with such issues as traffic and smog, acknowledges the statistic printed on 600 cards is phony, but says it's all for the cause.

"My personal opinion is that anybody who goes out and shoots helpless animals has a psychiatric problem," said Mr. Hightower, 82, a former hunter and World War II veteran. "Logically, statistically if you look at a sample of the regular population, certain people will have some kind of psychiatric problems."

So, because I like to hunt animals that can eat me, I have psychiatric problems? But being a sociopathic liar is mentally healthy?

What world does this jackass live in?

Corrections Department

Back on September 13th, I posted a follow-up on items pertaining to September 11th. One of the things I put in the post was a "F*ck Bush" party that took place on September 11th at Seattle's Square Room gallery.

Some of the "original artwork" work on display at the gallery that night looked like this,

You can see the rest here. And again, not all of it is safe for work. Unless you work at a methadone clinic, in which case you see this crap every day.

I mistakenly creditied the origination of the 'artwork' to one Brian McGuffey. I was incorrect in doing so as the actual 'artist' was Periel Aschenbrand of Body as Billboard, and my apologies go out to Mr. McGuffey for the mistake.

I stand corrected.

Debate Prep

P.J O'Rourke puts in more than his $.02 with some thoughtful lines that Bush could use in tomorrow nights debate with Kerry

My favorites,

*My opponent, Massachusetts senator John Kerry--or, as I like to think of him, Teddy Kennedy with a designated driver . . .

*There are two organizations pushing for change in November--al Qaeda and the Democratic party. And they both have the same message: "We're going to fix you, America." On the whole, the terrorists have a more straightforward plan for fixing things. They're going to blow themselves up. Although, come to think of it, Howard Dean did that.

*Speaking of jobs, Senator, how come every illegal immigrant who wades the Rio is able to find one in about 10 minutes? Meanwhile, your Democratic core constituency has been unemployed for years. Are your supporters lazy, Senator Kerry? Or are they stupid? Back when Clinton was president, did your supporters think they got their jobs at Burger King because Bill was sleeping with the cow?

*Yeah, we're running a deficit. Like Democrats never did that. But at least we're borrowing the money when interest rates are low. It's the same as refinancing your home loan. Not that you'd know, Senator Kerry, since your rich wife paid off your mortgage.

Desperation

The left is at it agin in Oregon.

Campaign to register voters takes sign-ups in Oregon's county jails

But on Friday, at Multnomah County's Inverness Jail, an inmate outreach group dispelled the jailhouse rumors about voting, prompting 37-year-old Brian Schaefer to register for the first time.

Schaefer, serving time for a probation violation on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants, is one of hundreds of inmates who has signed up recently in Multnomah and Marion counties as part of a registration drive sponsored by the Western Prison Project.

I wouldn't exactly be proud to say that I have probation violators voting for me, but I guess the Dems don't mind.

Following your dreams

Now this is a local story that is just too supernatural to ignore.

A Redmond teenager, missing for eight days, was found alive yesterday at the bottom of a woodsy ravine by a member of her church who said a vision led her to the girl.
Laura Hatch, 17, was found in the back seat of her smashed car, about 150 feet below Northeast Union Hill Road in Redmond, according to the King County Sheriff's Office. She was last seen in Redmond on Oct. 2. Family and friends had been searching for her since then.

Hatch was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she was being treated for severe dehydration, a possible blood clot near her brain, broken ribs, a broken leg and facial injuries, according to her sister, Amy Hatch.

Go read the rest.

If you're spiritual, it'll be good for you.

Well I like pets, but I'm not a bug collecter.

HEY, I've got a fan club! WHOOOO HOOOO! They even have pet names for all of us. How sweet...

I lost count, or was it interest? Anyhoo, they really, really need to double up on their meds. You could pop a vein in your neck by being enraged all the time like that, or sprout some wicked hemoroids, guess which one gets my vote? You know I've been called a no good dirty rotten MF'er by close personal friends, and dammit, sniff, it still gets me right in the old pump. So these kittens need to work on their rhetorical skills some more, I've had worse wounds from a six week old tabby.

Oh, just for fun, check out their reviews for Team America. You'd think it was illegal to make fun of them from all the bitching they do. It's NOT illegal, it's too much fun for that, must just be a sin, we all know how much fun those are. You have to love their reactions, and imagine them sitting stone faced and pale as chalk while squeezing the life out of the arm rests.

I bet they didn't even eat their ten dollar bucket "o" popcorn.

Irony is so cruel, fate so unkind, that a satire of them is released just before an election. Oh the humanity of it all.... Almost as endearing as the copies of F911 collecting dust at Walmart.

If the dimwits didn't exist, we'd have to invent them, some humor is just too mean for regular humans. This is more humane than using convicts or lab rats. Speaking of which, I wonder how much the going rate for a box of lab animals is?

Some tofu, a big box and some kite string and my financial woes are over. I'll be sure to punch a whoooooole lot of air holes when I'm done catching them.

A sword?... naw, 12gauge, definitely a 12 gauge.

What's in your wallet?

The middle class pays taxes at a rate of about twenty percent. A painful twenty percent. How would you like to just pay 12%? Easy, just be born rich and marry a billionare heiress.

"According to the Kerrys' own tax records, and they have not released all of them, the couple had a combined income of $6.8 million in income last year and paid $725,000 in income taxes. That means their effective tax rate was a whopping 12.8%.... "Under the current tax system the middle class pays far more than the Kerry tax rate. In fact, the average federal tax rate -- combined payroll and income tax -- for a middle-class family is closer to 20% or more. George W. and Laura Bush, who had an income one- tenth of the Kerrys', paid a tax rate of 30%. ...

Tell me again how the guy telling me he's on my side, that Bush is just a tax the poor friend of the super rich, tell me how he's really on my side. It shows that Kerry himself plays fast and loose with the income tax code. Lots and lots of spiffy loopholes for the idle rich,

isn't there John?

Yeah, right, the party of the little man. Tell me another, I could use a good laugh right now.

A follow up

Kerryspot has links to the interview. The excerpts posted would indicate a lot on Kerry's thinking that liberals pass over, but everyone else finds chilling.

When Kerry first told me that Sept. 11 had not changed him, I was surprised. I assumed everyone in America and certainly in Washington had been changed by that day. I assumed he was being overly cautious, afraid of providing his opponents with yet another cheap opportunity to call him a flip-flopper. What I came to understand was that, in fact, the attacks really had not changed the way Kerry viewed or talked about terrorism which is exactly why he has come across, to some voters, as less of a leader than he could be. He may well have understood the threat from Al Qaeda long before the rest of us. And he may well be right, despite the ridicule from Cheney and others, when he says that a multinational, law-enforcement-like approach can be more effective in fighting terrorists. But his less lofty vision might have seemed more satisfying and would have been easier to talk about in a political campaign in a world where the twin towers still stood.

Like the Captain of the Titanic, it was just a BUMP, nothing to see here.

In the same way, John Kerry sees himself as a kind of ambassador-president, shuttling to world capitals and reintegrating America, by force of personality, into the world community.

He would begin, if sworn into office, by going immediately to the United Nations to deliver a speech recasting American foreign policy.

Cussing to follow.

"Immediately"? What, he can't wait thirty fucking seconds in his headlong rush to kiss ass and grovel over our so called bad behavior? Fuck the UN, it's been bought and paid for many times over, and if Kerry wants to stick his panty clad ass in the air for them, he can flippin well do it on his own dime. His Swiss school friends won't invite him to tea anymore?... This rush to blow people who spit on our culture, liken us to the BORG, who wouldn't shed a tear if we fell into the center of the earth is sickening.

Annan, the great and weaselly, can get stuffed. We don't need the approval of a bagman. The French, true to form have whored themselves to the Baathists, and now want us to promise them we won't upset their blackmarket applecart with third world thugs. The safety and security of US citizens isnb't something you can use as a bargaining chip to get good face time on the BBC. The den of anti-American snakes among the upper crust Europeans will take the ring kissing and then laugh at Kerry's back, he'll be the supreme joke as Carter was. The complete revulsion this evokes in me, the contempt for the craven, spineless groveling to curry favor among the bought and bribed. The petty dictaters and robed princes of a currupt body designed and maintained to keep the currupt in power and keep the status quo.

Bush is a threat, we are a threat. Not because of our culture, not because we'll bomb or conquer them. But because we offer their people something way over the heads of their ruling classes.

Freedom.

We rock the boat, introduce change where the fat and happy don't want it. We under Bush are on a quest to plant democracy in the Holy lands, where every so called expert says that it will never work, never flourish. The same experts said Baghdad would never fall, that we'd be driven out of Afghanistan. The fathers of these stuck up elites said the same of Japan and Germany. The Germans were too authoritarian to ever not invade their neighbors, that subjigating them was the only answer. Well, our friends they may not be, but no one can say they aren't a free people now, can they?

Kerry isn't wanting to be our leader nearly so much as he wants to be just another old boy among the power brokers in the Haque. He wants us to be a "good German" and just follow along with the gang, forever a member of the herd. Well fuck him too. We aren't sheep, and if leading America wasn't like herding cats, then I'd be worried. We aren't Europeans and no amount of ass polishing by Kerry will ever change that. So to read he's in a burning hurry to apologize for us, to make amends, makes me want to throw stuff. You don't beg forgiveness for winning the gold, you don't say sorry for being the champion. The only power that can deterr America, is America, and I believe most of us still know when we're being sold a bill of goods. Kerry confuses ridicule of Europe for ridicule of him, and that tells you everything you need to know about his thinking.

Americans are a proud people, justly so. Kerry seems to be annoyed by that, by our lack of contrition for offending his old school chums. We won't bend a knee to Kerry's fan club, won't submit to the leash Kerry wants for us so badly. He's still the same big talking lair and conman we saw when he came back from Vietnam. Still the man sorry for us being what we are. The playboy war hero on the cheap, protester revolutionary, counter culture man of the world, forever apologizing for those rowdys that are his countrymen.

I'm sick of it, of him. I'm sick of the distortions of fact, of the outright lies, of the elitist condescension of a favored silver spoon in his mouth inbred leftwing asshole. I want him to lose so badly that the dems are crying about it for decades. That is the only thing that might shake them out of this suicidal fixation with appeasement. The dems can roll over and play dead if they like, there is no agreement by us to join them.

Never a cluebat lying around

When you need to educate a supposedly intelligent man.

''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance,'' the article states as the Massachusetts senator's reply.

September 11th was just a speed bump to him, if he can say that with a straight face. He just doesn't get it. "Mr. Roosevelt, what would it take for American's to feel good about traveling abroad again?"...

Our world shifted from grinning certainty to grim determination on that day, there is no going back to not paying attention to the petty butchers who aspire to be world class tyrants. Any American who thinks we can run back home and cower behind the illusion that terror is just a "nuisance", is just flamin nuts. The wakeup call was expensive, and the rest of us don't care to pay for it twice.

Drudge.

Caution: Gun Rant Ahead!

Working title for the rant: Stop Taking Your Damn Guns Apart If You Do Not Know What You Are Doing!

So the wife and I visit the lady who does our tattoos over the weekend and she says that she has found another one of her father's old guns when she was visiting her mom's house. Kewl!

(click for superduper size)

A Colt D.A. in 38 Special with a manufacture date of approximately 1904.

I start looking at it and I notice that the cylinder spins freely. I pop the cylinder open and notice that the cylinder bolt (the lever that pops up to hold the cylinder in place during and between shots) is not visible.

I ask her if she remembers when her dad last shot it. She says over a decade ago. Her dad cleaned it and then never took it out again, saying it was 'broken'. I tell her what I think is wrong and she tells me to take it home and do what needs to be done to fix it.

I get it home, remove the side plate and just as I suspected, the bolt spring is missing.

If you hit this pic and look in the middle of the green square, you'll see a dark diagonal line.

That is where the bolt spring goes. It is a lever type spring, not a coil, and it pushes on the inside of the frame and pushes the bolt up to hold it in place and hold the cylinder. It is about an eigth of an inch wide and half of an inch long and is very easy to lose.

As is evident here.

But it costs $25 plus shipping to replace. Not counting smithing time (which I'm not charging her after the deal I got from her on the S&W; Model 14).

So, my point is this. If you don't know what you are doing, don't go willy nilly into the guts of your firearm with a damn screwdriver.

If you think it is dirty enough to need a cleaning, take it to a smith. Most smiths will do the cleaning and a tune up for the same or even less (minus the cost for any worn parts) than the cost of replacing of this part.

A gun cannot save your ass if it is broken.

Rant concluded.

Somewhat Odd

That the western Liberals do not want to attack anyone in the middle east, but feel quite free to attack their fellow citizens. And not just any citizens, the ones who could actually protect them when the SHTF.

First up, a California politician has another stupid idea.

California's attorney general wants to crack down on gun violence by laser-branding all handgun bullets sold in the state with tiny identification numbers nearly invisible to the naked eye.

Under the plan, all ammunition sold in California would have a serial number etched by laser on the bullet and casing. Bullets without such micro-markings, including those from outside the state, would be barred by law, with some exceptions for sport shooters who make their own ammunition.

I don't need to remind folks who visit here what happens to bullets when they hit something, do I?

That is what happens when a 230gr Wincshester SXT 45ACP hits something made of water like say a human or a pumpkin filled with water.

Just where do they plan on doing their laser inscription? How much do they plan on charging ammo buyers for this "service"? How are they going to register the ammo to the person?

My advice: Rope. Tree. A particular Attorney General.

Some assembly required.

Next up, by now I'm sure you've heard of the new BB Shooter that is as big as a couple of stacked credit cards.

Well, that frightens some folks in the UK.

The latest hi-tech killing machine in gun-crazy America is a double-barrelled shotgun the size of a credit card.

The 'ultimate self-defence weapon' can fire 14 ball bearings at once and is on sale for 80. Its maker, Patrick Teel, claims it is 'very effective' at ranges of up to 10 feet.

Teel said the credit card shotgun was designed to help its owner escape from an attacker and claimed it would do the job better than a standard .22 handgun.

It took me over a half an hour to read the whole article, as I couldn't stop laughing everytime I passed the phrase "Hi-Tech Killing Machine".

More like, "You could put an eye out with that thing".

Laurence has a damn fine idea (you may have to be a reader of Douglas Adams to get it though).

Theory: The planet of Krikkit is populated by radical fundamentalist Muslims.

Evidence:

"Peaceful coexistence with you is a total no-show. On the other hand according to their view, they were doing the right thing. They believe in peace, justice, morality, culture, sport, family life, and the obliteration of all other life forms." -Judiciary Pag

Solution for the Middle East: A Slo-Time Envelope around Egypt, Syria, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar...

Of course Kerry and his supporters would poo-poo this idea as racist.

But then again, the UN Elections Monitors make them comfortable.

Laurence speaketh the truth once again,

Let me get this straight... the UN elections monitors got the indellible ink and ballot ink mixed up in Afghanistan? And we're supposed to listen to what they have to say when they watch over the November elections here?

There aren't enough pikes to mount their heads upon.

Judiciary

Once again, I have to thank the folks over at The Kos IMC for pointing me towards something useful.

Another reason to get off our butts on November 2nd and vote for Bush.

The Environmental Law Institute studied the 325 cases brought in district and appellate courts under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) from January 21, 2001, through June 30, 2004. Some excerpts from its report:

* Federal district court judges appointed by a Democratic president ruled in favor of environmental plaintiffs just under 60% of the time, while judges appointed by a Republican president ruled in their favor less than half as often  28% of the time;

* District judges appointed by President George W. Bush have an even less favorable attitude toward environmentalists NEPA suits, ruling in their favor only 17% of the time;

* When industry or pro-development interests sue under NEPA, the results are almost exactly reversed: judges appointed under a Democratic administration rule in favor of pro-development plaintiffs 14% of the time, while Republican-appointed judges rule in favor of such plaintiffs almost 60% of the time.

An even more striking pattern can be discerned in the federal circuit courts, in which three-judge panels decide appeals from the district courts. Here, the study found that:

* Circuit court panels with a majority of judges appointed by a Democratic president (those with two or three such judges) ruled in favor of environmental plaintiffs 58% of the time.

* In contrast, Republican-majority panels ruled in favor of environmental plaintiffs just 10% of the time only one-sixth as often.

These results suggest that judges political affiliations often have a pronounced impact on their disposition of NEPA claims. This is especially significant given the federal judiciarys central role in defining and enforcing NEPAs obligations. The results call into question whether NEPA is meeting its core purpose of providing a transparent environmental impact assessment process that generates information about proposed federal actions regardless of which administration proposes them, who objects to them, or who hears any dispute about them.

Stop the Eco-Nazi Deathgrip. Vote Bush.

And they said "Ooops"

FactCheck.Org got their facts wrong. Imagine that.

Aaron @ FreeWillBlog straightens their shit out.

A lot of search traffic is getting directed here on this point, so I want to add something: Factcheck.org says that Bush "forgot" he owned a tree-growing company, arguing that Bush owns 50% of LSTF, LLC, a timber concern, through his trust fund, the Lone Star Trust. They also point out that both Kerry and Factcheck.org were in error to claim the $84 came from LSTF, since the Lone Star Trust did not own it's piece of LSTF in 2001, as Kerry claimed. (This was, though, just an error, not a lie.)

However, Factcheck.org forgot something very important and material to the question: The Lone Star Trust is something called a blind trust. Like many politicians, Bush's assets are organized into a blind trust to avoid conflict of interest. In a blind trust, the beneficiary (in this case, Bush) has no idea nor any control over where the funds are invested. Bush's disclosures would be handled by his accountants and the trustees. In other words, Bush was legitimately shocked to hear the notion that he "owns a timber company". At best, he indirectly owns part of a timber company through an organization that operates independently of his control, and Factcheck.org, at best, is being misleading to say Bush "forgot" it. You can't forget something you simply never knew. So there, Googlers, is your answer.

Beaumont students watch 'Fahrenheit 9/11' in class

BEAUMONT -- A Southeast Texas businessman is upset that his son's English class watched Michael Moore's scathing documentary on President Bush and his handling of events after the terrorist attacks.

Michael Kurth, a veteran, said he was opposed to the film "Fahrenheit 9/11" based on its R rating and political partisanship. His son Matthew, 17, said that he put his head on his desk and tried to sleep through it.

Any lefty lurkers out there want to try and tell me what the fuck Michael Moore has to do with the subject of 'English' or even a Senior English Lit class?

I mean, other than some of them can vote.

C'mon. Try me. I'll double check your answers before they post to make sure they don't make you sound too stupid if you want.

Mankind

The future we aspire to.

If you don't understand the choice we are facing here, then you risk a journey not into this bright future, but rather the stone age past. A war between knowledge and ignorance. A war between hope, and fatal resignation.

I'm not going to say that Kerry would deliver us to such a past on purpose, he'd take us there in a bumbling kind of appeasement that shouldn't be worthy of debate. As if Wilkie had publicly called the fight against the Germans the wrong war, and asked who wanted to be the last man to die for a mistake. Hitler didn't bomb Pearl Harbour, so why divert attention away from the real enemy in a war based on a lie? What if he had praised FDR's polices in 39, but then ranted against them in 43 and 44? The casualties were massive, and why weren't the bodies shown in the news reels by a neo Michael Moore type? Didn't they want to know the cost of war? What if Hollywood had instead of giving full support and throwing bond drives, had made movies like Moore's? Joking about the hours before FDR made a public statement, showing the glorious paradise of Berlin, while skirting over the forced encampment of Jews? Shown dead Americans, or GI's behaving badly? Would they have been loyal Americans merely excerising their right to protest?

Sound familiar?

"Loyal opposition" is fast becoming a very bad joke. The Kerry people have no regard to the damage they do, just as long as they get the prize. How different would history have been if Wilkie had acted as Kerry has? Wilkie instead chose to be an American, a statesman first. When some dems decided to become democrats, before being Americans,.... I feel sorry for them. Leaving aside Kerry's blatent bungling, his desire to tie American security to a premission slip from the UN is insane, giving what we know now. He would trust the French to serve the interests of peace? Now who is divorced from reality?

Despite his faults, Bush is serious about pursuing the war. Kerry is only serious about Kerry. If you believe that that doesn't matter,.. I dispair of you having the sense to come in out of the rain. Because it is raining,

and Kerry is carrying a ligthning rod.

Gallery of whores

When does doing the right thing, become the wrong thing? The nice thing about the web, is that nothing you did in public in the past goes unnoticed when it's 180% from what you say today. It's not a matter of changing their minds, but a far more mercenary reason. Kery and crew will say anything, ANYTHING, to get elected. Even when from his past words, he knows he's full of shit.

Now,

"Iraq was not a terrorist haven before the invasion," Kerry told Philadelphia voters September 24. "Iraq is now what it was not before the war: a haven for terrorists."

Then,

Just before authorizing the Iraq war on October 9, 2002, Kerry referred to Saddam Hussein on the Senate floor: "He has supported and harbored terrorist groups, particularly radical Palestinian groups such as Abu Nidal, and he has given money to families of suicide murderers in Israel."

I for the life of me, cannot understand why democrats see absolutely nothing wrong with the politics of the lie when their own do it. No fair minded person can read these qoutes and not know Kerry is a weather vane, blowing whatever way the party mood goes. If the dems want to embrace the lunacy of pretending the WOT doesn't exist, Kerry will play that game.

No matter how many of us end up dying as a result.

With all due respect to at least one reader, Kerry will run, he'll bow and scrape, he'll sell us out for the warm praises in Bonn and Paris. He'll do nothing out of integrity, because he doesn't have any. You can't look at his bio and believe he does. Don't let Bush hate blind you to the whore you back in response.

Fair? You decide.

Drudge.

We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.

I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right.

Translation, kerry is losing, so step up the pressure on Bush. Rather's selfinflicted wound didn't teach the media anything about being rabidly partisan, they learned nothing. So much education, yet so little common sense.

The numbers

Saturday October 09, 2004--The latest Rasmussen Reports Presidential Tracking Poll shows President George W. Bush with 50% of the vote and Senator John Kerry with 46%. Today is the first time all year that either candidate has hit the 50% mark in our survey.

Almost all polls give the democrats the edge on trust with the economy, republicans are trusted on strength, and defense.

By a 49% to 45% margin, voters say they trust President Bush more than Senator Kerry when it comes to managing the economy. The President has a slightly larger advantage when it comes to national defense and the War on Terror.

For Kerry, this is damning. When the public disregards the democrats traditional strengths, something is very wrong with the message, or messenger. The public is trending to the view we share, that Kerry has no strong views beyond the moment.

First time in 5000 years.

I actually heard a female BBC reporter say that there are more women on the streets in the capitol than any other time in the three years she's been visiting Afghanistan.

Sadly, there has been some violence.

A bomb exploded at a polling station in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif early today, a Western official said, shattering what had been a relatively calm start to Afghanistan's first-ever presidential election.

There was no immediate word on casualties.

And if you have any friends in Austrailia, call them and get them to go vote for Howard.

Further proof that the left has a sense of humor only when it's skewering the right. About themselves they wrap a mantle of selfrighteous indignation. You can't laugh at Sean Penn, he might get all huffy about it.

P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want.

Sean, you are an idiot. After your prewar asskissing tour for Saddam, your letter to the president, you have demonstrated yourself as having the morals of a goat. You only count the dead when it's politically convienent, as you never noticed or mentioned Saddam's 300,000 unmarked graves. Never minded Uday's habit of dropping people into industrial shredders. And when Kerry himself admits he would have left Saddam in power, you're just fine with that, and the untold thousands of innocents he would have butchered in the future.

You say you know death Sean?

You have no idea, no inkling of what you speak, I could teach you, instruct you on what you claim to know. Debate Round-Up

Verdict - John Kerry was Bush's bitch.

My proof?

#1 - The local leftie radio guys went immediately to the "No WMD's in Iraq" line directly after the debate and finished the hour off with it.

#2 - The Kos IMC feels the need to transcribe the debate themselves. Apparently, CBS's version of the debate transcript just isn't good enough for them.

#3 - It seems that both Atrios and the other looney left wing sites have just figured out that Bush mispeaks. Internets? I laughed, they cackled.

They also think that earning a whole $84.00 on an investment in a lumber company in 2001 is equal to owning it in 2004.

No wonder they don't understand that the economy is growing.

Oh yeah, and Atrios thinks that Bush's line to Kerry about his 19+ year Senate record "You can run, but you can't hide" is hostile.

Pussies.

A New Way for the Left

To get rid of Pro-Bush/Iraq War signs.

Family told to remove Blue Star banner supporting son in Iraq

The family of a soldier serving overseas says their landlord told them to take down a small banner they put up in support of the man.

Isabel Seiler put the banner up two weeks ago after joining Blue Star Mothers, a support group for parents with children in the military.

The banner features one blue star, signifying her son, Christopher, who is in the Army.

Families have displayed such banners since World War I, and they stay up until their children return home safely.

But on Wednesday night, Isabel says her landlord told her to take the banner, along with a Support the Troops sign, down.

Im upset, she said. Im upset because I look at the other apartment units around us, and they have Kerry-Edwards signs in their windows. And I dont understand why I cant have a Blue Star banner, because its supporting our troops.

I guess it's kinder than chucking a rock through the window, but it is still so wrong.

And the Neanderpundit tells a good one about his experience with caffinated alcohol after reading a story about Anheuser-Busch's new beer.

What it started out as, was a pound of freshly roasted coffee beans. This was put into a bottle with a large sprig of mint, and the empty spaces in the bottle were filled with vodka and a mixture of liquers.

One of my first experiences with strong spirits, that was.

Oh, some of you might be thinking Kahlua, and you couldn't be further from the truth.

This shit was NECTAR. You wanted, nay, needed, more, and more, and more. When the bottle was empty, you shook out the beans, and chewed on them.

Outsourced, My Ass

Mr. Preston @ The Junk Yard Blog helps us debunk the Tora Bora Lie from sKerry.

With the words of Col. John Mulholland, Commander, 5th Special Forces Group.

There has been a lot of discussion since about [whether] American forces [should have been on the ground in Tora Bora]. I would be a liar if I didn't say that certainly ... [with] American forces on the ground, we would have had a more conventionally confident force to do conventional search, seizure, isolate, cordon and search operations. But that search force wasn't available yet, and there was great impetus to do something to move up into these mountains. So we were asked to supply an A-team up in there to assist with [Afghan forces 2,000 or 3,000 totally, as I remember] you could muster to go up there and take on any Al Qaeda forces who we knew were there. ... Our function was to work with [anti-Taliban Afghan] forces and increase their capability as much as possible to move into the mountains, and then re-apply air power up there to destroy these caves and to kill as many Al Qaeda as possible. [Al Qaeda] wasn't interested in surrendering, by and large.

'Conscientious objector' loses Iraq war legal battle

A Muslim reservist airman who refused to take part in the Iraq war because of his religious beliefs has lost a legal battle over his prosecution by the RAF for going absent without leave.

Mohisin Khan, 25, from Ipswich, absented himself from duty on the grounds of conscientious objection.

Mr Khan, an aircraftsman and medic, had been mobilised with others last year to return to the regular forces to supplement service personnel in the Iraq war.

The court was told he held a "genuine and deep belief" that the pending war was wrong and contrary to his religion. There had been interference with his right to conscientious objection.

Bombing people is against Islam? Maybe he should tell that to the terrorists.

Oh wait, they'd call him a infidel loving heretic and stone him to death.

A difficult admission

I have mentioned the issues I have right now with new back injuries, and as you can imagine, it complicates things. With the last few months, our son, my wife losing her job, and my accident, things are tight, extremely tight. We'll make it, it's just that, as a matter of circumstance we may have to cut back on all nonessentials. My wife is working again, but we have to dig out from under a rather daunting pile of expenses.

I'm just trying to say, that I may have to go offline for a while. It won't be because I want to, but that priorities have to be set. If I go silent for an extended period, it'll be for those reasons. If I have to, I'll try and give advance warning, if I can. But if I do, I promise, to get emails to Nukevet and the AnalogKid as to how we are doing.

I love posting here, really I do. I have so many friends that I've met at RNS, and I wish that to continue. If I have to go offline, it won't be for months, but rather maybe a matter of several weeks.

I have to deal with workmans comp, and while they are letting me continue to work, the restrictions are severe. No bending, no standing for extended periods without access to a chair, no lifting over 15lbs. Surgery is up in the air pending approval, but I'm assured it will happen, if not through them, then my own doctor will schedule it. There is no avoiding it anymore. I'm hoping to fight it off till after Christmas, I don't want to be laid up when we have to buy for the kids. Pain meds or no, I have to work, and that settles that. Some things are beyond cost, and I will do this.

I'm not asking for anything but your tolerance, and maybe patience. I'm probably guilty of false pride, but we'll be fine. I won't allow any other outcome. This has just been a difficult year.

I didn't see the debates

I was working, and other issues interfered. Hugh gives his opinion, which I tend to trust.

The first debate went to Bush because the memorable exchange is one that continues to rightfully dog Kerry. Bush supporters can hope for better delivery from their candidate, but should be praying for more of the same from John Kerry. A suicide note that impresses with its flourishes is poignant, but it's still a suicide note.

Budda bing,... budda boom.

I discount versions from people who say Bush smirked his way through the debate entirely. Because they say that about all his public appearences, they hate his manner and face, so their opinion means less than nothing to me. Polls show the race tightening, which is to be expected, it always happens. Mondale led the race at various points against Reagan in 84, and we know how well he did now don't we? But,... if kerry were to win,(haaaaaaaawwk, spit!), it's still not over. The war will come to us, even if kerry and crew cut and run like the craven curs they are.

Any calls by a kerry administration for unity, will be duely laughed at. His quips about lies, treachery, curruption, and illegitimate wars will be thrown in his face. He had a chance to support the war and run as an alternative in style not in kind, he pissed that, and us, away. The idea he could unite anything besides his hands and his wife's money is a sick joke. Four years of slanderouse, libelous, outrageous open war against Bush and his supporters, and we are supposed to just forgive and forget?

kerry better pray he loses, because paybacks are a bitch.

Further examples

Duluth, Minnesota:

"We did it."
Three Duluth teenagers walked into the Duluth News Tribune on Wednesday afternoon, opening with these three words. The boys said they were responsible for vandalizing Bush campaign signs and painting a swastika and the word "Nazi" at a London Road residence last weekend.

An hour later, the three boys traveled to the Lakeside-Lester Park police station, where Sgt. Scott Campbell was waiting to talk to them.

The teenagers told the News Tribune they meant no harm to Bob James, the homeowner and Bush-Cheney supporter who erected the signs. They said they spray painted the signs and the swastika on James' sidewalk but had nothing to do with the vandalism of two of James' vehicles.

Friends and supporters of James and the Republican Party of Minnesota had offered a $2,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the vandalism.

While the teenagers were remorseful for what they did to James, they stood by their contempt for President Bush. They said they left a phone message for James on Wednesday and twice went to his house to apologize, but he wasn't home. They planned to try again later Wednesday.

"It was not an act of hate," said Dustin "Dusty" Dzuck, 17, a senior at Denfeld High School. "My mom called me a terrorist. It wasn't terrorism; it was activism. It was for a cause.... The whole thing is, basically, I just wanted to get the word out there that in my opinion Bush isn't doing this country any good."

Dzuck said his actions bothered him more when he learned James is an Army veteran.

"Activism", I have a special kind of contempt for boneheads like these two little boys. Bush is EVIL so anything they do is just public spirited "activism".... That boy's mom had it right. Are gangs of self appointed thought police any less hateful when they use vandalism and intimidation as weapons? Doesn't the klan use those very same tactics? Burn a cross, burn a campaign sign, eh,... the message recieved is the same. "we hate you, shut up if you know what's good for you. we know where you live. we'll strike at you in the night where your children are."

If that isn't terrorism, then the word has no meaning.

Why so bitter?

Professor Reynolds weighs in on the reasons for the extreme bitterness of this election. I'm not so sure he has it exactly right. His facts are correct, but he understands the religious right about as much as the Guardian understands what a libertarian is. He hits all around the target, but never quite hits the bullseye. One email that he recieved nailed it, pointedly so.

Reader Stan Brown emails:

Liked your Guardian article, but any comment on religious or quasi-religious fervor making politics more bitter since Reagan was elected in 1980 should at least mention Krauthammer's point - Republicans think Democrats are wrong and Democrats think Republicans are evil. I don't think anyone can begin to understand politics over this time period without it.

That's it exactly, it's not a puritan vs. Chatholic type of religious fight as he suggests. It's a fight between those who believe they have the right to be left alone and their thinking the left is deluded. With the the modern left "do-gooderism" which sees any attempt to hold them back as an act of pure evil. If you don't support them, you aren't wrong headed, it's that you hate children and wanna strangle babies. It would explain why almost all the vile bullyboy acts commited so far in this election, have come from the left. When you say your opponent is the devil, then any tactic can be justified to the true believers. Which is why Hugh Hewitt is right, this election can't be allowed to be close, else the left will try and steal it, as they tried the last time.

The left loves to equate America under Bush to Germany in the thirties. They love the analogy. The truth of it is, is that the brownshirts and fanatics we need to worry about, are the ones who wear kerry/edwards buttons.

The Soundboard: Indian Summer Edition

It looks like we will actually get our Indian Summer this year, here in the Pacific Northwest. Which means I can keep it up with the summer music.

But first, a story.

Back in the summer of 98, the Analog Wife (who was still the Analog Girlfriend at the time) would go out to a certain jazz club in a section of downtown Seattle known as Belltown on Thursday nights.

Now, this was kind of a whole in the wall, not easy to see in-between the quickie mart and the laundromat on 3rd Ave. But it was a winner on Thursday's.

You see, on Thursday nights it changed into something other than your standard whole in the wall jazz club. It became a smoke filled Greco/Turkish club.

A few Turk musicians would set up their instruments on the small stage and belly dancers from one of the local dancing schools would come in and dance for hours. The line-up was always rotating, with the nearly 6ft tall blond instructor always coming in to close out the evening.

I was seriously addicted to the food. I don't know who they had in the kitchen, but he/she/they could turn out better Greek food than Onassis ever ate. I could eat the spanakopeta until they kicked me out the door, but only after a few rounds of souvlaki that tasted like the lamb was fed only oregano, garlic and olives.

Now, I'm not a people person, but I like to watch folks interact. I'd sit at my corner table with the wife and maybe put a few dollars into the dancer's many belts and give a few to the wife to do so as well.

But the interesting part of the whole evening was watching the large numbers of Muslim men file into the club. If you needed a cab in Belltown between the hours of 7pm and 2am, you were pretty much screwed because they were all parked along 3rd Avenue and the cabbies were inside drooling.

They rarely, if ever, spoke to one another. Maybe just the odd elbow to the guy standing next to them when one of the dancers did something provacative or to egg the guy on to put more money into a dancer's belt.

Oddly enough, another group of regulars were members of the local Greek mob community. These guys stood out like sore thumbs with their exceptionally over-greased hair and their sharp as a tack sharkskin suits. A good eye would easily see the bulges produced by their badly located firearms, which were illegal there because the club sold alcohol. But I was packing too, so I wasn't going to say anything.

The Greeks also spoke to each other loudly in their language of too many consonants, but niether the wife, myself or the Muslim men really minded.

Anyway, it was during these few months when the wife and I were regulars here (before the club closed down) that I found, purely by accident in the 'New Release' section of the local Tower Records, the album 'In the Buzzbag' by The Brooklyn Funk Essentials.

A dozen member funk/soul group from NYC took a trip to Turkey and cut a record with an Istambul band by the name of Laco Tayfa. And it seriously blew my socks off.

I like to think of it as "The Ottomans invade Jamaica".

So here you go. A two-fer.

Move On needs some cheese

To go with their current whine.

MoveOn Demands Employers Give Paid Leave To Vote On Election Day

Liberal anti-Bush political action group MoveOn.org is asking its supporters to pressure their employers to implement an Election Day leave policy to prevent them from "breaking the law." In a recent e-mail to its members, MoveOn.org contended that "nearly 4 million registered voters couldn't get to the polls because their employers wouldn't give them the time off that they needed" in the 2000 election.

"In many states, companies that don't give their employees the chance to vote are breaking the law," MoveOn.org declared.

Yes, the employers would be breaking the law, if they were making the employees work the entire duration of local polling hours without giving the employee time off to go vote.

But I seriously doubt that this is happening to even 1% of leftie imeciles.

SEYMOUR ARM, British Columbia - This lakeside hamlet is so remote it can be reached only by boat or logging road, and so small there is only one store. But investigators say many of the 60 residents were involved in one business operation growing marijuana.

The Mounties must have been tipped off my the large airdrops of Cheetos to that store.

One hundred Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers executed search warrants on 14 homes and 14 vehicles Tuesday and found several factory-sized operations within a 2 1/2-mile radius, said Police Superintendent Marianne Ryan. At least 16 people were arrested in the rustic town about 240 miles northeast of Vancouver and more arrests are likely, she said.

"We've never seen anything like this before, not where a whole community is affected this way," Ryan said.

I guess they didn't hear the horses splash as the Mounties rode out of the lake.

An SSI History Lesson

Mollbot got an e-mail from a buddy you should read.

It begins like this,

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He (they) promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year.

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Now, if this isn't the SSI that you know, you should read the remainder.

A Tale of Tuesday

The following is my take on the VP debate that took place last night and the six hours following the event discussed by my local Seattle left wing talk radio shows.

And lo, in the grassy valley, a sheep and a ram were discussing issues of the flock. Without provocation, off topic and out of nowhere, the sheep uttered the dread word.

Halliburton.

And yea verily, it was heard by another sheep who was grazing nearby. And that sheep repeated the dread word. And the sheep next to it repeated it. And so on, until the dread word echoed throughout the grassy valley.

The rams heard this echo and shook their heads and snorted their little ram laughs, but they were not truly amused, for they knew that power of the dread word.

Over the rise and across the lake, the jackals heard the echo of the dread word. And the jackals smiled. And they were very amused.

As the dread word continued to echo throughout the evening and into the night, the jackals howled to their moon god Allah-ooooooo Akbar! and began their journey to the grassy valley.

As they crested the rise that looked over the grassy valley the next morning, the jackal leader repeated the call to his god, Allah-oooo Akbar! Thank you for the falafel meat!

And they began their attack.

But the rams of the flock had known that this was coming, as it always did when things like the dread word were used to distract the sheep. The rams had spent the night quietly herding as many of the sheep as they could to a safe part of the grassy valley and prepared to defend the flock, as was their duty.

But the jackal attack was fierce. The jackals would bite and cripple each other in order to get to the stray sheep. The rams defended in coordinated and devastating attacks, but the numbers of the jackals were vast.

----------------------------------------------------

I am going to finish here. For while we know how we would like this to end, none of us can see the future. Lets just make sure the sheep dont get put in charge.

Bi Polar?

I was only concerned about the sanity of McDermott before.

But now I'm getting actually worried

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) did something a little unusual yesterday. First he protested when Republican leadership scheduled his own bill for a vote.

Then he sent out a letter encouraging his Democratic colleagues to vote against it.

Rangels bill, which the leadership had placed on the suspension calendar, would create a national-service draft under which all 18- to 26-year-olds would serve in the military or perform two years of national service as determined by the president. Rangel has been advocating a draft for several years, but he argued yesterday that the bill was too important for the suspension calendar, which is reserved for non-controversial items, he said in a statement.

Bills on the suspension calendar cannot be amended on the floor and require two-thirds of the House to clear the chamber.

The article only names Rangel, but McDermott also voted against the bill.

Dr. McDermott and Mr Jackass, maybe?

Doing the good deed

They just extended the tax cuts for a few more years, not the right wing of Congress is doing something else that makes me happy.

The Republican-led House voted Tuesday to break up the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, an action opponents said was motivated by conservatives' ire over some of the court's rulings.

Nine states are currently covered by the 9th Circuit, but the legislation would leave just California and Hawaii in a revamped lineup.

The proposal splits the seven other states into two new courts: one to handle appeals from Arizona, Idaho, Montana and Nevada; and the other to oversee Alaska, Oregon and Washington.

The 9th Circus is finally getting it's short hairs trimmed for being goofy.

Update

I probably should have blogged this to you all yesterday, but I forgetted.

As of yesterday, I am now back to working my nightwalker shift of 8pm to 5am. Thankfully.

The wife is now also working a graveyard shift for the forseeable future (18 months) so, for the first time in over three years we can finally see each other in a non-grogy, half asleep moment.

I look at it as being 12 hours ahead of the rest of the world (aka: the daycrawlers).

Sadly, this also means that I will have to put the Blastorama that I was planning for this upcoming weekend off until I become fully acclimated to this schedule. Look for it to happen the week after, unless I can't talk my father-in-law into coming along, then it'll be the weekend after that.

We now return you to your regular blogging.

Lying Liar and the Lies he tells

Remember this from the 'debate' last Thursday?

JIM LEHRER: "New question, Senator Kerry. Two minutes. You've repeatedly accused President Bush, not here tonight but elsewhere before, of not telling the truth about Iraq. Essentially, of lying to the American people about Iraq. Give us some examples of what you consider to be his not telling the truth."

S. KERRY: "Well, I've never, ever used the harshest word as you just did."

It is here we find that Kerry flip flops once again.

Sen. John Kerry, Campaign Event, Claremont, NH, 9/20/03:
"This administration has lied to us. They have misled us. And they have broken their promises to us"

And I'm sure you all remember this one:

"Let me tell you, we've just begun to fight. We're going to keep pounding. These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group I've ever seen."

Oh wait, those aren't flip flops, their lies.

Oh Wonderful!

After another belch from Mt. St. Helens yesterday, her neighbor decided to try and show off.

Small earthquake recorded at Mount Hood

A small earthquake rumbled beneath Mount Hood on Monday but it wasn't related to Mount St. Helens' venting of steam and ash, according to scientists.

All these volcanoes have a common tectonic setting," said Willie Scott, geologist with the United States Geological Survey Cascades Volcano Observatory, in Vancouver, Wash. "But each system operates quite independently on their own plumbing system and own magma systems."

Preliminary data at the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network at the University of Washington in Seattle showed that the earthquake was about 2.7 in magnitude, said lab technician John Patrick.

Yeah, sure pal. Tell that to me again when St Helens calms down for a while.

FYI, Mt. Hood is the (supposedly) dormant volcano in the background of this photo from yesterday.

More St. Helens Stuff

I want to show you a pic that you'll probably never see otherwise.

(click for bigger)

This is a photo of Mount St. Helens taken on either May 21st or 22nd, 1980. This mountain is still belching up ash, smoke and steam two to three days after it's initial eruption.

You'll notice that everything around the mountain is, of course, covered in the pulverized dust it erupted. The rest is mud flow that reached past Interstate 5 to the west and, if I remember correctly, took the interstate bridge out with a wave of mud and debris. Namely, a large portion of the forest surrounding the mountain that was sent down river by the lagre flow of mud.

In the background, you can see Mt. Hood, which St. Helens closely resembled before she blew.

The picture was given to me yesterday by my mother, who worked at the Washington State Dept, of Natural Resouces at the time. The photgraph was taken by a WSDNR aerial observer named Jeff Schmidt.

Mr. Schmidt was also the pilot of the aircraft and only 18 years of age when he took this photo. Talk about getting some excitement between high school and college.

And because I care enough to send the very best, Here is a link sent to me by Rivrdog, who had to haul ass over the aforementioned bridge (replaced, of course, since the eruption) on his way back from our shooting party this weekend. The mountain was giving off some serious harmonic seismic richter scale readings just like it did before the 1980 eruption.

Let's just say he was happy to have that bridge in his rear view mirror.

Anyway, the link he sent me is to the NOAA hypothetical forecast for a volcanic eruption of dust within the next week or so.

Hello Nevada! How do you like me now?

Road Rant

As I said last week, I spent a good portion of the day on the local interstate system and have some issues Id like to deal with. Thats right, the driving Nazi is back.

First off, Id like to address the reason interstates are built the way they are.

When Eisenhower commissioned the building of the interstate highway system in the 50s one of the standards that had to be met was the moving of military vehicles and equipment. The roadway had to be graded so that military convoys could move down the road at a constant speed without having to slow for turns due to geography.

If I remember correctly, the speed standard was either 45mph or 50mph. Now, were talking deuce and a halfs here, not Chevy BelAirs or Ford Thunderbirds.

This meant wide sweeping multi-lane expressways.

Just south of Seattle we have two of these sweepers that form an S turn that is 5 lanes wide plus an HOV lane. I hate that sweeper. Even during relatively light traffic, there is always some yokel who cannot stay in their own lane, which I have tried to understand, but have failed.

I can talk on the phone and pick my nose at the same time and still hold my line. I would really like to know what is going on in these vehicles that the driver is so distracted. Are they playing with themselves? Is someone playing for them? Do they have a game of cards going on? Maybe they were head-banging too hard and got dizzy? I give up.

Please help me with suggestions.

Next up, is a suggestion by reader Mike in Wisconsin. I kept it in my head and counted this particular brand of dingbat yesterday.

I counted no less that 27 people cutting off large, trailer hauling vehicles. Even in my wildest moments, I have always respected the following distance of large vehicles.

I think of this in two ways; first, the road is their office. Imagine if someone came in and minimized all the screens of your work computer just by walking by. Kind of screws up your ability to work, huh?

Second, in drivers ed, we were all told that every 10mph = the number of car lengths we are supposed to allow between us and the car in front. Even the smaller, single axled tractors pulling an empty trailer need two of THEIR lengths for every 10mph to be able to stop.

Physics, folks. Speed + weight = momentum / traction + braking ability.

And then you get to factor in brake pull. If the right brakes lock harder than those on the left, that trailer is going to kick out to that side and squish anything that is in its way.

Heres a tip, the trailer box and the frame it sits on weigh more when its empty than your car does full. I have some complaints about being tall, but this wouldnt be my preferred choice for a temporary reduction in height.

This also applies to ton trucks hauling wood or horses or trash to the dump or a camper or, well, you get the drift.

One more quick thing, are you tired of being tailgated? If so, I have a trick that you may not have heard or thought of. In fact, I used it today on a 1988 Honda CRX.

If you get some chucklehead tailgating you when they can easily pass you, but theyre too lazy or stubborn to do so, let them get nice and close and turn on your headlights.

If you do this quick enough, the preferred reaction is them realizing that youre tired of their tailgating and you are brake checking their dumb ass and they lock up and go screeching off to the shoulder while you drive away. Most of these twits wont realize that your federally mandated cyclops taillight never came on.

Two points I need to point out for this to work. The sun cannot be shining directly into their eyes, nor can it be shining onto your taillights. If the suns light is too strong, they wont see your lights come on.

Also, make sure that there arent any innocent by-standing drivers around that could get hurt. Youre looking for a laugh, not a blood smear.

This trick is also fun to play on jackasses who you see cut off semis. See the tie-in there?

Drive safe.

What women can expect

If sKerry wins.

From mAss Backwards,

In the span of eight days, two women were abducted, blindfolded, beaten, and savagely raped in the gun-free utopia of Boston. All I can say is thank God these women had been disarmed by the liberal establishment in this town, else something bad might have happened to them - or their poor misunderstood victims-of-society rapists.

The Mayor of Boston's response to these crimes?

"It's a safe city, but I think we have an issue today that must be addressed."

Oh! How kind of His Royal Mayorness! Why, he will probably set up a Blue Ribbon Committee to see why the men chose these women in particular and maybe kick the ladies out of town.

Oh and I forgot this bit, found at Freewill Blog,

Yesterday, a police official said the department is so concerned about the assaults that it plans to extend the hours to obtain a license to carry pepper spray so that women who work during normal business hours can apply.

Right here and now, I am going to make an offer here at RNS:

Any anti-gunner who thinks that mace, pepper spray, bear repellant or any other type of self defense irritant in a can is just as effective as a trained woman carrying a firearm, can shoot me in the face with their sneeze powder of choice at any distance they choose (No point blank shots, safety issues).

But, if I am able to recover and re-start an attack on you within 15 seconds, I get to give you a free right hand cross to the face. Works like NyQuil: one shot, you go to sleep.

Man or woman, it doesn't matter. If you think you're right and want to step up to the plate, you get the same treatment regardless of sex. Always equal rights here at RNS.

If you want to up the ante, I'll let you kick me in the nuts after you spray me, if I get to pistol whip you (like what these women had to go through) when I recover within 15 seconds.

Put your money where your mouth is, liberals.

Put your body on the line, assholes.

One free shot at the Kid. Two if you don't mind guaranteed bleeding.

Your policy vs. My policy

Except with real world consequences that you have to pay for.

UPDATE: I'm in the middle of my next post and have decided to open the bet up to stun guns. Bring on your 9V batteries of doom.

Flotsam and Jetsam

The day after the 'debate' on foreign policy, some actually took place. Of course, the MSM decided that it wasn't important enought to even make the scrolling ticker at the bottom of the TV screen.

Six Power Stations Set for Transfer to Iraqi Ministry of Electricity

Our job here isnt just to bring Iraq more electricity, it is to help the Iraqi people create a fair and equitable system that will last for years to come, Stor said. Its about new and rehabilitated generators, spare parts, training; its about giving them a solid foundation to build from after we leave.

Five other electricity generation stations across the country are in the process of being transferred back to the Ministry of Electricity, while work continues on finishing the Corps initial projects list with a price tag of more than $1 billion.

Stories like this are why Blogs of War is part of the Library of Congress MINERVA permanent historical collection on the war in Iraq.

Under the wheels

And screaming.

The recent controversy involving CBS News's use of apparently forged memos -- and the reaction to the controversy -- prompted a Newsweek editor to demand that conservatives stop trying to "intimidate" the media.

"I think conservatives ought to quit trying to intimidate the rest of the media," said Eleanor Clift, a contributing editor to Newsweek, in an interview with CNSNews.com following Thursday night's presidential debate at the University of Miami.

The liberal Clift was responding to a question about whether CBS News correspondent Bob Schieffer should retain his role as the moderator in the Oct. 13 presidential debate between President George W. Bush and Democratic nominee John F. Kerry.

"Bob Schieffer is one of the most respected newsmen on all sides of the political debate," she said, defending CBS's role in the third and final debate.

A conservative website, BoycottCBS.com, has called for Schieffer's removal from the debate that will take place in Phoenix and suggested NBC's Tim Russert or former CNN anchor Bernard Shaw as possible replacements.

Maybe if conservatives weren't treated as if they had sprouted horns by the MSM, we wouldn't have to call them on their bias.

A Good Question

Vinny @ Insignificant Thoughts asks;

"Hey Jim Lehrer, where are the real questions?"

Lehrer to sKerry
"As president, what would you do, specifically, in addition to or differently to increase the homeland security of the United States than what President Bush is doing?"

"What is your position on the whole concept of preemptive war?"

"If you are elected president, what will you take to that office thinking is the single most serious threat to the national security to the United States?"

Excellent questions, Jim, if sKerry were at a campign stop in Ohio.

I was wishing for just one question like this, "Senator Kerry, you claim that you will be able to build better coalitions to combat terrorism. Have you spoken to any foreign leaders during your campaign in preparation of your possible win, and if so, which ones and when?"

Or maybe, "Senator Kerry, you have said that there are not enough troops currently in the theater of Iraq, what have you done in the past 4 years to promote the building up our armed forces to create the proper troop levels so that the proposed plan at your website can be put into effect on the chance of your winning the election?"

Both fair and unloaded questions.

But I would love this one, "Senator Kerry, you have, earlier this month, spoken of a secret plan of President Bush's to reinstate the draft. From who did you hear this from, and do you believe this would be necessary to actually do if you won the election?"

sKerry would then have to admit that he WILL reinstate the draft once he gets into office to gather up the 40,000 troops he says he will need to 'fix Iraq'. He will, of course, blame this restarting of the draft on Bush. And the entire left wing of the country will believe it.

Maybe I am Evil?

I have been called a creator of monsters after giving others the 'gunny bug'. It has even been suggested that I am evil for doing so. I plead not-guilty by reason of monetary defect. If I had enough money to buy all the guns in the world, I would.

But until then, I have to get other folks to buy them.

So Mollbot, Rivrdog and I got together for breakfast Saturday morning. Afterwards, we stopped by a local firearms retailer for some ammo and accessories.

And then it happened. Their eyes locked.

OK, she didn't have eyes. But by golly, a luv connection was made and a partial dowry was left for her honor.

I swear, if Mollbot wouldn't have bought her, I would have.

I blocked her out so that he can make a proper introduction in due time. Keep your eyes open here.

The Soundboard: Gone Shooting Edition

It's off to the range again, today.

I'll be joined by Mollbot and the permenantly vacationing Rivrdog at Renton Fish & Game.

But I can't be leaving you all without some sort of entertainment, now can I?

In the late 80's / early 90's a group of club kids in NYC got together and formed the group DeeeeLite. I'm sure you've all heard their hit "Groove is in the Heart' with Maceo Parker, Bootsie Collins and Q-Tip (of A Tribe Called Quest fame).

Well, after the group's demise, their DJ, Jungle DJ Towa Towa (aka Towa Tei), went back to Japan for a bit and then went solo. It was then that he started putting out some of the best electro-box tunes ever released upon the planet.

The song today is off his first album, Future Listening. The whole album is very Brazilian, but this one swings.

If you would be so daring as to download the following tuneage and listen to it, and don't get the urge to sway in you seat, or crank it up and sway with your significant other, then you either have no soul or your legs are broken.

Towa Tei - Batducada

Towa's website is here

The vox babe on this tune is none other than Bebel Gilberto. And here site is here.

Debate After Action Report

I don't know how he did it. This was Bush's chance to take sKerry behind the woodshed and show him the bad side of the real world, but he wasn't on his game and it showed.

I have an idea as to what might have happened to Bush's debate prep.

China's Party Chief Tells Army to Be Ready for War

While sKerry's crew was feeding him Kos' talking points and trying like hell to get the fake tan crap off his face, Bush was trying to keep the the Chinese and the Taiwanese from making chop suey of their respective chunks of dirt.

Anyway, I'm going to call the first debate a tie. Kerry was smoother, but Bush had reality on his side.

I was at work, so I listened to it on the radio. Now that I'm home and can see the replay, Kerry looks a lot smoother, while Bush seems as though he's looking for que card.

I would give the debate to Kerry, but I'd like to think that the people on the fence are not fooled by smooth talk.

I think Bush's best jab was when he brought up sKerry's talking shit about Allawi

"Now, my opponent says he's going to try to change the dynamics on the ground. Well, Prime Minister Allawi was here. He is the leader of that country. He's a brave, brave man. When he came, after giving a speech to the Congress, my opponent questioned his credibility.

You can't change the dynamics on the ground if you've criticized the brave leader of Iraq.

One of his campaign people alleged that Prime Minister Allawi was like a puppet. That's no way to treat somebody who's courageous and brave, that is trying to lead his country forward."

Another Anti-Gun Lie

Shot Down In Flames

Van Douglas Godette Jr., 23, from Lake Charles was sentenced Monday by United States District Judge Richard Haik to 21 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release for making false statements to a firearms dealer while attempting to purchase a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol announced United States Attorney Donald W. Washington.

The offense occurred when Godette attempted to purchase firearms at a gun show in Lake Charles in November 2002. While completing the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Form 4473 Godette answered "no" to questions which ask whether the purchaser has been convicted of a felony.

Godette was convicted in April 2002 in 14th Judicial District Court in Calcasieu Parish for possession of ecstasy. Godette stipulated at the time of the guilty plea that he well knew tht he had been convicted of a felony when he tried to purchase the 9mm pistol and also an AK-47 type rifle at the gun show. The ATF was alerted to the transaction because of the required background check through the National Instant Criminal Information System which revealed Godettte's prior felony convictions.
